i'm looking for a new day pack. i need a size not to big but not to small, one to carry a...

sat phone
cell phone
large pistol
ammo
mistress
flashlight
gps
fire
camera
lunch
light coat or shell

i don't intend on living out of this pack but to use it to toss all the crap in as i go on 4 wheeler trips, boating, drives in the car. i don't intend on carrying it on my back but would if i had too.

you know how it goes, you run around and grap this and grab that and pretty soon you have a pile of $hit sitting on your table or counter and only a plastic shopping bag to get it to the car or boat.

i would like a nutural color as i'm not fond of camo, maybe desert tan would be nice.

any advice or help would be appreciated.

thanks,
skoink

I recommend Northface packs. Mine is only 1800 cubit inches, much less than it sounds. They last forever. mine has been around the world (literally). No doubt they will have a size for exactly what you need.

Is the mistress a full size one or inflatable

I'm assuming a Battle Mistress, so we can keep this here insted of G & G.

Have you checked the Maxpedition packs? Pretty roomy, and tall enuf for a Mistress and you can teklok your AD on the outside also.

How big is the satcom??

Camle-bak Transformer

That is what I used at scout camp :D

Very cool & you can fill the bladder up with Johnny Walker Blue & all the other brothers think it water!!!

The new ones come in evil black but come with a revesable cover that is 3 day desert camo on one side & blaze orange on the other so elk hunters won't shoot the poor little skunk!!!!

Look at Maxpedition for some useful packs. I just got a Fatboy but it won't hold a BM. 2 phones and a camera plus most of the other stuff will probably go though.

I have a pack made by Dan at Semper Paratus Tactical and it is great! He makes a lot of gear for military soliders who want the best. He has a lot of features built in like a place for a Camelback hydration system and lots of places to add extras from. Here is his email: semperparatustactical@hotmail.com

Arc'teryx Needle 35 . I have the precursor, the RT 35. Very nice design. Lays flat on your back. I use the RT 35 as my bugout back. Pre 9/11, I would carry my Battle Mistress, Gen 1, daily, in that pack.

Kifaru Military Packs, nuff said!! www.kifaru.net/MGhome.htm

Depending on how much stuff you want to pack, I would suggest the Marauder, the Scout or the E&E pack.
Kifaru is unsurpassed in quality and construction. Lots of PALS webbing for modularity adding pouches if necessary. I currently own the E&E and a MMR. Great packs. Kifaru is also coming out with a new line of lumbar packs. Check out their message board on the website as well.

I also would recommend Dan.... He can build it to your specs if you don't need his already awesome stuff.... What Randucci said! :D

good input!! wow!!!

thanks guys, i'll start in the direction that you pointed me in, i didn't want to waste any bucks so i wanted a quality long life pack. all these sound good so now on to the reading!!

thanks!

I have owned a bunch of the North Face packs, small book bags to larger expedition packs. They make some good stuff. One of my NF day packs have been all over the conus, japan a few times and europe. Not to mention school and various hiking trips and 4wheel adventures here in the islands.

There are a number of other great brands out there. Osprey, arcterex, Dana- the older company, dont know how the new one is. I would stake my life on the older Dana Designs Terraplane. I also have a Humbug Spire

Never tried the Maxpedition stuff. Does anyone own the daypacks that they make?

Scott,
I recommend the RAID pack made by Eagle Industries. All of Eagle's stuff is bomb proof. I have this pack for quite some time now and it has held up great. I have carried it to Blade twice now and to the field etc. Here is a pic.

It has PALS webbing on the outside if you want to attach to attach other pouches. It is available exclusively through Lightfighter
Eagle also has a great warranty they will replace your stuff as long as you don't shoot it, cut it, or blow it up. :D

Just checked out all these packs at a very large national shop.

Spec Ops T.H.E. Pack, big Zippers that would take Para Cord, very secure attach points. No water bladder supplied, but has pocket for one. Has 3 pockets, Main, and two smaller pockets on the out side.

Spec Ops Recon Ruck Ultra, What can I say, A Big open pack

Camel Back Did not seem as well stitched, but it comes with water bladder, I liked the fit better. Also has 2 large pockets on the front and the main pocket.

Black Hawk 3 Day assault, not many attachment points. I was not impressed, although the pack seemed well built.

Maxpedition, well made products similar to Spec Ops, but not as many attachment points. Fat boy S Type Fits My Glock 19 just right.

Kifru Packs are also great packs, I have limited experience with them but they looked well built also.

I went with the Spec-ops T.H.E. Pack which I feel fit my need the best.

Lots of good equipment out there.

I was surprised that I was told two things.

Eagle Industries sent a whole load of packs to this distributor (who is very large and supplies the Military) the stitching on the packs was incorrect, the handles were in the wrong places etc.

Also was told that Blackhawk Industries was just busted for using Chinese day labor by having the workers come on board their boats in International waters.

I did not see these defects myself, I was only told these stories, the packs I have seen from Eagle Industries and Blackhawk packs and the ones I looked at did not have an of these problems, so buyer beware. I can't imagine that the wouldn't take care of you if you happened to get a defect though.

Ed, I see you checked out quite a few of these packs. I can only relate to what I have seen and used my self.

I have seen and handled The Spec Ops pack. It seems OK and well built They seem to stand behind their products, from what I have heard from others on other forums. And Made in USA. Warranty is as follows Spec Ops Warranty I would maybe buy one at a substantial discount to try it out and see if it really held up as well as other packs I own. Price is a little lower than Eagle and Black Hawk.

The Eagle Industry packs are awesome. I own three of them the RAID Pack, The Three day Assault Pack AIII, and the AIII Large Airborne Assault Pack, I have abused all of them all over the world and never had any part of any of them come close to failing. I will definitly buy more of their stuff one day when finances permit. Their warranty is here About Eagle . And I have heard nothing but good things about their customer service. I am able to treat these packs the luggage equivilant of how I treat my Busse Knives. If there was a product problem like you described I am sure it was made right.

BlackHawk has come to have bad reputation among people who buy and use "tactical gear" they are thought of as having quality that is not up to standards of other companies and they are manufactured in Viet Nam last I checked. For the same price I can buy Eagle Industries products made in America of better quality.

I have always wanted to check out a Kifaru Pack. They are supposed to be the ultimate in military/tactical packs. I have also heard good things about their hunting gear as well. If money were no object I would go with Kifaru.

Just my two cents, YMMV

Damn being broke sucks. There is always the next piece of INFI or the next bit of tactical gear I want. :grumpy: :( Maybe next year.
