Day Pack Advice Needed (kind of off topic)

My last 5 years as a grunt I used BH stuff. Owned alot of the Eagle but BH treated me better. Sold my 3 day pack to a guy when I left the Middle east in April. Figured he could use it more than me. Just my .02 worth

Gotta put a good word in for Dan here....

I've also got one of his 3 day packs. Contoured shoulder straps, 1000 denier cordura (actual Dupont Cordura), assembled 1 at a time by the man himself..

I too carry my daily, gotta have it crap in this pack, and it was handy at a local show when I purchased some ammo. I carried a case of .45 PLUS all the extraneous crap I carry to a show, and schlepped it roughly 1/2 mile to the truck....(not a great distance, but anyone who shoots .45 knows the stuff is bleeding HEAVY, plus an extra 10 or so pounds of stuff).

The pack was still super comfortable and none of the seams showed any signs of stress.

Just my $.02

Since I have come to realize all Busse owners are nuts for quality gear I wanted to add another name to this list. Mystery Ranch. The guy who started Mystery Ranch is Dana Gleason and he is the original founder owner of Dana Designs. Anyone out there who is a backpacking nut will appreciate the name Dana Gleason as he was and is once again a revolutionary pack maker. This link goes to his military section which is somewhat limited but expanding. Take a look around the site at some of his "Civi" stuff. Some of his designs are unorthodox looking but all of them carry like a dream. Made in Montana means something to me too.

I met Dan in person on Friday to pick up my Fat NO and the sheath he made for me and got to check out some of his equipment. All of his work is first rate and being able to add design features to your specs is outstanding. I tried on a modular vest and two of his packs and they were excellent. Especially for carrying the load you described and carrying a gun on your hip which many packs will interfere with. Dan is big on integrity and cares more about making gear you are going to be happy with than making a buck. I am going to buy a vest/pack hybrid from him. :D

I would really like to see some pics of Dan's stuff. Everyone keeps talking about his products. Someone please post some pics.

I saw the pack Dan made that Brian had at Blade. Man, it was one tuff mutha.

Very well built and good feel to it.

Had that hand-made integrity.

Although not big enough for your needs, I have a Maxpedition Fatboy. Awesome rig! The only downside is that my wife calls it my man-purse!

Cheers,
BJB :D

I've got the Camelbak Maximum Gear Hawg exactly like the one Gundy posted the pic of. I just did the Grand Canyon rim to rim with it and barely noticed it was there. Its a great little pack. They make a bunch of different models with more or less cargo space depending on what you need. I like the Maximum gear models much better than the regular civilian models. I think they are actually made by Eagle Ind. I've got three different models of them and bought a couple for my folks.

I have not posted pics before so bear with me. Fire in the hole!

Sweet. Two of Dan's packs. The first and second pics are the same pack but in the first shot it has some pockets added. Side zipper access is sweet so you don't have to burrow to the bottom of your pack. Very handy. He will make any of them hydration system compatible. The second pack is cool too as the pockets are padded on the outside and aid in the compression system. They obviously add some protection to things like binoculars you may have in the outside pockets. Also shown in the second pic is the closable port with water tube coming out. He puts one on each side with velcro closure. I tried both of these on and they were very well thought out and comfy. And Dan is not stingy with the stitching which makes for a bombproof bag.

Second guessing...the first and second packs may be different models :footinmou
