Day Trip/Gear Testing

Great photos! Good to see you had a chance to get out and put your gear to use.

wow great pics. i've never done anything like this, so it's amazing to see what can be done with a set of tools you can throw in a bag. would you recommend the folding saw? how long does it take to set up a shelter like this? beautiful dog btw

I would DEFF recommend the saw for 15 or so dollars its a hell of great addition to a kit. Makes nice flats bottoms on logs for batoning. Both the one in the first and second set of pictures took about 3-4 hours with two people working at a pretty good pace. The only bad thing is you are NEVER done! The more dome shaped shelter in the 2nd set of pics is my favorite because it was basically build with gathered materials. Only the gerber axe was use to trim branches. Thats my buddies husky in the last pic (bandit) and if you look close at the middle pic mine (shadow) is laying down. They are actually brothers from the same litter.

need pic of dog..

My best friend an I got these dog from a breeder up in Oregon. They have spent most of their lives together. My dog Shadow goes everywhere outdoors with me. Day hikes, camping, jeeping (he really likes to run out in front breaking trail), Snow hikes, almost anything I do out doors he's there.

My favorite pic of my boy!

Well take into consideration that the 3-4 hours it took was, for the single shelter, in knee deep snow with no snowshoes. We had to dig up a lot of the logs from under snow.

The second set of pictures took that time at night in the dark. So these can be accomplished in maybe half the time in dry, lighted conditions.

DRY and LIGHTED CONDITIONS aren't in our vocab buddy! Skilled our other buddy an I have a nasty habit of going out in the best conditions... haha Lets go out just one time this summer where we can pick wood up off the ground an put it in the fire or when it doesn't rain 2 days straight OR when we can actually get to our campsite because the 3 feet of snow on road has melted... :D

Great Dogs....Thanks for the pics

I had one named Sparky many years ago.... Red & white, blue eyes strong as a bull & Smart to boot.

You have a great looking dog! Both the dog and your location make me miss hiking and camping with my Kodiak (Alaskan Malamute) in the WA Cascade Mountains when I lived in Seattle! Don't miss the rain though.

Thanks,

Al
