This time, the buisness pace picked up and I don't have too much to offer except for a few of my travel shots. We drove from Merida, Mexico to Chetumal for another laboratory assessment. The drive was about 5 h long, a straight cut through the scrub/jungle of the Yucatan and admittedly not a whole lot of scenery to be sceen from the car window. The interesting stuff came from the little towns that we drove through. The shots below are mostly on the drive so I apologize for the quality of some of them.

A shot of a little clearing in the jungle:

Cute little myan girl in a red dress. Thought the sepia black and white really fit with this shot.

A little restaurant we stopped in at Chetumal

And my $10 (USD) lunch including 2 cervesas (Superior)

My one knife shot - as I'm a knifeless, but the gardner was sharpening his machete by the restaurant. His grinder was a bicycle like contraption where he used a foot peddle to get the grinding wheel really moving. Sparks were shooting off the edge, drawing the temper of his cheap machete. Neither one of us could understand enough of each other to communicate the brand. If you look closely you can see a cool leather sheath for it. Unfortunately I had no time to locate such a sheath but there are a few days coming up in Guatamala city yet...

Oh and a parting shot of my hotel in Chetumal - this one wasn't so grandiose as the previous one. But quaint and complete with its own little villa gecko's.

I'm just in layover at the Mexico City airport right now and will arrive in Guatemala City tonight with a flight to Honduras in tomorrow morning. I'll be back in Guatemala City Friday and have the whole weekend to explore - a little fun that I can't wait to have!

Hopefully I'll be able to report again en route.

enjoy the small town feel of mexico city. just teasing; people have told me that when flying over it that no other city in the world matches it's vastness. that part of mexico is so much more different than what we typically think of it as because we oft times visit the frontier towns on the U.S. border.

carpe diem !

i think i will google earth the area. also i enjoy these types of places because it is an intricate study on the topic of survival in so many ways. we are very far removed on situations such as food preparations, water treatment and sanitation that we take things for granted and ultimately become soft and thus weak. the fall from such lofty heights is usually not a matter of if but when and is devastating. as long as most of us have air conditioning and a thumping stereo and the latest trends we can be happy.

we are very blessed but yet should not take things for granted.

sorry just a few thoughts that were inspired by your beautiful pictures. thanks for sharing .

Beautiful pictures. It's been a long time since I've been to Guatemala. If you get a chance, visit the catacombs in Antigua. Hope you have a good time and stay safe.
