DC Motor & Controller - HELP!

Hi Guys -- When I got this stuff (via eBay) a few years back I was pretty stoked. For a few hundred bucks I got a 1.5HP DC motor from one vendor and a DC controller from another. Looks like I blew it with the match though. Apparently the motor is a shunt wound one and the controller is only for a permanent magnet motor. Anyone who knows this stuff have any ideas? -- Thanks, Phil

It's been awhile since I bought my dc motor and controller so maybe I'm fuzzy on details
but I'm not seeing why that setup won't work. Just make sure you get the resistor and fuse
rated for 1.5hp for your controller @180v. Someone double check my work.

Thanks David! That's what I thought too. It wasn't until I started reading into the manual that I came across these seemingly unfortunate words, "Do not use control with shunt wound motors." Due to the several hour difference between Hawaii and Florida, I haven't managed to connect with a KB Electronics tech yet to see what they say, but the prospects don't seem good. :(

I finally got a hold of a techie at KB Electronics. Nope, can't use it with a shunt wound motor, only for permanent magnet ones. The fella said the controller was actually one of their more expensive DC drives being for indexing. Turns out there's a KB distributor right here in Honolulu. Their getting me the KBPC-240D for $160 and the On-off AC switch for another $15 (all freight free). Should be here within the week. Anyone interested in the KBPI-240D? :D

I can't find listings for either of those part numbers

Does the new one you're getting work with that motor you have ?

Whoops...have corrected the models numbers above. Yes, the KBPC-240D is supposed work with the motor I have. Crossing my finger the motor is good. :o
