Imagine my surprise when I was checking the mail yesterday...

Happy 2015, y'all!
(I'm still sober)

That knife just screams Charlie Mike! Congrats on being sober! All the savings buys more knives right!

It's nice to see that the knife I had made to my exacting specifications was in Blade. Next is gonna be this AAAXD...

...it will be a like having a one year chip that I can cut stuff with!

I wish AA gave out knives instead of medallions for anniversaries. Maybe we should start a meeting I need a home group anyway :) Congrats on the knife and your sobriety. I'm coming up on 90 days here pretty soon. Happy new year!

Sorry man, but I have to ask......................what could possibly be the point to leaving that thin ridge of thick steel right in the middle of the main bevel?

I can think of very few things that could ruin a knife's slicing efficiency more than having a thick ridge of steel with sharp square edges right in the middle of the belly of the main bevel.

Should coming up with something 'new and different' come at the expense of making a cutting tool totally worthless?

I guess to each their own but I sure don't get it. Darrel Ralph or not, if someone gave that knife to me free of charge, I'd promptly give it away or throw it away. I'd have no use for that blade.

I'm glad you like it and good for you for getting sober. :)

I know my post may seem harsh but I'm genuinely interested in the thinking that went into that blade. Maybe there's a really good reason for the blade design?

Educate me, please.

I guess these would be the 24 hours "keep coming back" knives?

It's a compound grind... for looks. Doesn't affect the performance since the ridge is also convex ground.

Awesome on 1 year sober! Cool knife but as was asked above, whats with the ridge on the side of the blade? Make the hole bigger when stabbing?

Thanks for the answer CM, must have been posting at the same time.

Again, sometimes looks come at an expense. And I disagree, I can think of a LOT of knife tasks where that would seriously affect the performance even if the very edge of that ridge is sharp.

Tony does em too...

I don't know this 'Tony' but just because he does it too doesn't make my point any less valid. :D

All that shows is that there are now at least two makers that make super nice, clean folders with excellent fit and finish and less than optimal cutting and slicing performance. ;)

Just because other makers do it too, doesn't make them perform any better than if there was only one doing it. :)

Tony Marfione... Microtech custom.

The name still means nothing to me. Is it supposed to? Well known or not, huge following or not still has nothing to do with how well a knife will perform.

If you love it great. All I asked was why the blade had that ridge in it. If it's just for looks, then to me it makes that knife a really expensive paperweight. I'd rather have a nice polished agate or gemstone for that. And it might slice things better than the knife if I needed it to. :p :D

Hahaha!

It does everything I need it to do and for that, I'm happy. The next one will have a plain hollow ground bowie blade. Hopefully this will be ready by the end of the month. Next on the DDR list is a 4" chisel ground hawk bill Maxx.
