Offering up an unusual one: a Level 4 Dominator by Darrel Ralph done up in a heat treated SM100 blade. A level 4 DDR build has multiple bells and whistles: It has a milled zircati front scale, clip and backspacer, MokuTi pivots and an SM100 compound grind blade. The SM100 (a nickel titanium alloy) is heat treated, giving it an iridescent color that shifts with the lighting. This was obtained direct from Darrel Ralph, was made to my specifications but has never been used, carried, or sharpened. Blade centering is excellent and the knife flips smoothly and locks up cleanly though at a weight of 7.5 ounces you know you are flipping a hefty piece of metal. SM100 was the wonder metal a decade or so back - it will not corrode and holds an edge well but is a devil to sharpen. It is my understanding that high metal cost plus the difficultly of machining meant that it never fully caught on. Heat treating adds an iridescent sheen that varies from knife to knife and which shifts with the angle of lighting - I am told that no two blades like this are alike but I have not seen another like it to compare. The market for Darrel's work has been up and down since his passing and the SM100 folders are seldom on offer. I am asking $1800 - a fraction of what I paid but the market is not what it used to be.
