De-assisted my ZT 0350

Bringing back an old thread,
I just tried this today and am pretty pleased with the result. It really does feel like a different knife, like it's been moved up a notch in quality. Mine is an earlier serial number and has a pre existing detent too. One thing though, no matter what I try I just can't get the blade centered.

On my 0400, I replaced the small washer on the spring side with one that's the same size as the lock side. The washer is much smaller because it has to clear the torsion spring.

Lets say the speed safe snaps, is it easy to turn it into a manual flipper instead of shipping it to KAI?

I just did, it takes 5 min. I spent a little more time and polished and greased things up a bit. Wait, that sounds dirty lol.

So I was bored and decided to try it. Was not a fan which is strange because I am a big fan of manual flippers. The 0350 is my only assisted flipper.

I could not find the balance between blade centering, blade play and smoothness. The jimping also quickly abraded my finger while trying flip it with enough force to open it all the way with no wrist movement. I think part of it might have been the really weak detent. Unless I have the pivot tightened way down it was fairly easy to open the knife with gravity only.

Oh well.

I did this some time ago on one of my first 350s. Not a fan. Of course one of the reasons I love this knife is the AO. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome makes manual difficult for me at times.

have never seen the point of doing this. once it's open it's locked it to use, whether or not there is a speedsafe spring bar in there.

it matters not to me how it opens, just that it does.

Well one reason people do this is because it's much easier to close one handed without the spring (which I agree with). But I tried an 0350 for a few weeks with and without the torsion bar, and I liked it better with the torsion bar in. But overall (personal preference) I didn't like the knife enough to keep it.

whoa, didn't expect to see this thread back on the first page.

as an update, I have also de-assisted my 0350CBZDP and it is just as good as my TS. I would never dream of putting the torsion bars back in.
