Maybe, if you build one and take pictures, we can see what the problem is.

Sorry, I forgot your other question.

My favorite is the figure 4.

Split stick is a close 2nd, probably the easiest.

The Paiute follows that.

That’s just my opinion; others may, and will vary...

Here's a slightly modified figure four I made a while back. I had a small issue with critters raiding my strawberry garden one year.

Just keep experimenting, and practicing, eventually you'll get it nailed down.

Do you have any pets? I used to use a laundry basket and some dowels to practice trapping our cat. Good fun on a rainy day and it entertains the kids.

Best recommendation I can give you is part with a few bucks and buy Ron Hood's DVD on Traps. You'll never have a problem with a Fig. 4 again.

G'day all. I've been quite busy and haven't had much time for the forum lately..... but I couldn't resist speaking up about one of my favorite topics.

Here are some more pics in case they help or inspire further:

You can tie the diagonal stick on to the bait stick if you like. This may make the trigger easier to set... and it can make the various sticks easier to find after the trap has been sprung:

Deadfalls are great for rodents:

It is possible to set a deadfall with a very heavy weight that a small mouse can set off if you play around with trigger sensitivity. You can 'shorten' the trigger or 'lengthen' it to get different leverages. In my pics above some triggers have steeper diagonals (shorter) than others. It is a bit hard to explain, but once you start experimenting you will get the idea.

Happy trapping..... Coote.
