Grats mbob! Ive just been waiting to see one of Dhans polished swords of shiva. Sure looks nice! Let us know what that siam wood is like. You scored today:thumbup:
Well, maybe I scored. But I still haven't gotten a "Done Deal"... I was wondering what "siam wood" actually was, but there are several different woods that show up on a search for "siam wood". I'm guessing that this must be siamese rosewood, Dalbergia cochinchinensis?
P.S. I was also interested in what "Dhar wood" actually was, but search results are not revealing. But then I found this from a post on this forum by Yangdu on 2-10-2010:
"Dhar"
"Last month I received shipments of few Tamang knives that have a super
strong wooden handle made out of a special redish wood, Dhar.
The tree that produces this red colored wood grows in southern Nepal, a
flatland that resembles Louisiana. It is warm, humid and full of mosquitos.
The wood is so strong that it is used to make a Theki, which is a bell with a
direct connecton to the Nepalese occult. It is used to make a Sherpa
homemade brew, Jadnh, by ensuring fermentation.
The wood has several uses, including making wagon wheels for Gada, a
wagon pulled by oxen or water buffaloes. If this beautiful wood is strong
enough to be made into wagon wheels, it should be more than strong enough
for wooden knife handles.
This unusual redish wood makes the knives I have special and rare. It will
hold a special place in your collections."
