Dealers and Quartermaster

There have been any number of threads that have dealt directly with the "question" (not sure it's really a question) of the provenance of Quartermaster's products. Most of them have eventually included comments on the perceived obligation of dealers to reconcile the USA Made claims of Quartermaster with either evidence to the contrary, or a total absence of evidence to support the claim. Over the last couple of months it appears that GPK has both removed the Country of Origin information and greatly reduced its inventory of Quartermaster products (with the assumption being that they're in the process of eliminating them entirely). BHQ has (with a few exceptions that seem to be mere oversights) removed Country of Origin information on Quartermaster. (I've seen comments to the effect that BHQ is also getting out of the Quartermaster business, but it doesn't look like it to me). SMKW doesn't carry them. That leaves one outlier. Why?

A number of retailers carry them. Most are very small businesses focused on the mall ninja market. But not all.

Knifeworks sells Jared's knives as made in Texas, including butterfly models that, for the most part, cannot be legally shipped across state lines (felony) and are unlarfully possessed if shipped across state lines (contraband).

The rationale of a larger retailer, Lamnia, is that so long as Jared claims his knives are made in the USA Lamnia will advertise them a such. Of course, Lamnia is in Finland and so faces no legal liability under U.S. law.

Heinnie Haynes in the UK also flogs them to the uninformed. Indeed, da' Heinnie boats of his "collaboration" with Quartermaster that has resulted in a "unique" "exclusive" model. (" 'Badass!', 'Awesome!', and 'Sick!")

Follow the money.

Not exactly your question, but with the exception of their occasional Spyderco dealer exclusives, there's nothing that the HQ sells (that I'm interested in) that I can't get from another trusted - or bf supporting - retailer.

Don't know if those other ones avoid squattermaster because of its shadiness or simply don't carry them, but that's enough for me to choose them over a place like the HQ.

To be fair, any business shipping automatic knives across state lines without requiring military/LE id is likely in violation of the statutes you reference. This would include most high-profile knife dealers and retailers.

The outlier to whom I referred is Knifecenter - the most prominent of the big online retailers who seems disinterested in the truth of Quartermaster's provenance.

All of the Qtrmstr knves sold by HH are showing as "Limited stock" so maybe they are running down their stocks too, I don't know.

Meanwhile, according to this article, Qtrmstr are rolling out their own monthly subscription program, maybe to get around the dealer issue.

Also in the article they address the USA made question (again):

We also asked the company to address rumors they’ve been outsourcing production to China while claiming their knives are made in the USA. West maintains QTRMSTR knives are produced stateside and says the company uses five different production facilities across the country for different processes. West goes on to say the controversy hasn’t interfered with QTRMSTR’s mission. “If teenagers want to make false connections it’s not for us to worry about. Cream rises to the top. As long as we keep up the great quality we’ll prove we’re one of the top contenders.”

I agree with the point of this thread and would like to see them ditch Jared wests companies as well.

Threads like these help that to happen as we the consumer voice our opinions to the dealers. Send knifecenter a pm with link to this thread. Hopefully they get with the program, they still use the made in the USA lie.

You noticed. Yes, they habitually commit felonies. $$$$
