Dealing with phobia

In their own way, MRIs are almost as scary as MREs. :)

I had a fortunately short session in the gleaming white tube and I think the hard, cold, sterility of it exacerbated the claustrophobia. If it was wood-paneled or felt-lined it might not seem as bad.

Wildone39 - sounds like you're been thru some real crap, hope you managed to get some form of resolution with the bastard that abused you. You sound like a survivor, keep watchin' the sunrise, it's magic every time.
I think the thing is, no matter what you're phobia is you gotta realize it's in your head and the things in you head YOU control, you may not completely lose you phobia but you can definitely make it impact your life less.

I've never been to war and hope I never go. I realize yours was a while ago and it didn't mess with you at the time but either that or the childhood abuse could come back to haunt you, as I understand it, at any time. I was a cop for a few years and I used to think that anyone who needed any kind of counseling or therapy was a wuss (I though the same thing about bicycle helmets until I knocked myself cold on a bike). None of the nasty crap bothered me at the time or so I thought. Now, 15 plus years later, it bothers the hell out of me, I wear a bike helmet and I go to therapy. It can take some doing but go to see as many therapists or pshrinks as it takes to find one you think competent and like. I can not in good conscience whole heartedly recommend the VA but they are the only med insurance I've got and you can get free counseling at any vet center since you are a combat vet. All you need is a DD214 showing service in a combat theater.
