Just got the Tamang yesterday; the spine measures just under 1/4 inch at the thickest part, and then tapers towards the tip. I don't have a scale, but I think the weight was a typo, it feels like about 18 oz to me. Its an awesome chopper and a great camp knife, "thank you" to all the great folks at HI!
