Deals for 10/23 --Pix, Ultimate Fighter, Kerambit and Beautiful Offerings

Frankly putting my finger or pinky through that hole scares the daylights out of me. Seems like a good way to force one to shoot left handed.

In playing with this knife I could easily cut that ring off and get along just fine and dandy but I'm not gonna do it.

Wouldn't be a kerambit if I done that. I did play with it with the reverse grip and if I was to turn into a hurter and not a lover I can see where that might be right handy.

But cept for keeping miscreants off of my pistol I don't fight with a knife, plain and simple.

It's a tool, a great tool, a beautiful tool but a weapon only as a last resort. Heck somebody could get cut ya know?

I got mine too. I will take pictures this week. I have been watching videos on their use. You always hold it upside down Bawanna buddy... not blade up but blade down. Your index finger goes in the hole right at your middle knuckle point. The ring can be used as a impact weapon. I have two or three tricks down with it. The razor sharp HI product has me a little scared. I am ordering a trainer so I can experiment safely. It designed to be used like a tiger claw.

This guy has some good beginner stuff. Check out his other videos as well...

The HI version doesn't have the sharp claw hook point that many of those maneuvers rely on for effectiveness and personally I'm glad. I love it the way it is.

I'm not a knife fighter.

Bawanna my friend. Being we don't really discuss our proffesions
plus me not being the quickest on the uptake, I didn't realize until this thread that you're a Peace Officer. Bless you my friend for all you do. Please be extra careful out there in these days of officers being besmirched for no reason at all. I come from a long lineage of PD and FD members dating back to the late 1800's and know full well what you deal with on a daily basis. Keep an eye over your shoulder. Hopefully your friend as well. Jay

Many of the techniques can still be performed with the HI version. The extended back hit, extended blade hit, and reverse tiger claw can all be used. The only thing you need the hook for is certain grasping techniques. The ultra sharp HI version can do about 60% of what a normal kamarbit can do.

Just please stop holding it will the blade facing up... that's like holding a handgun upside down :D. Try a reverse grip with your index finger through the ring... you will feel how comfortable and instinctual it becomes.

Bigbore, I'm just a Law Enforcement office puke my friend. I'm a department armorer but mostly am forced to play on a computer all day. Due to my transportation needs (the wheelchair) they don't let me hit the streets much as they all know I'd like to. My heart rides with them every day and they all know that when things get bad I'll be there if I know where they are but sadly I don't get to go out regular.
I did apply for 3 agencies but due to being short and not hearing too good even 40 years ago nobody would hire me. Funny I only got my dream job after I became a full fledged derelict. Still chuckle about it.

gurkha, no question at all in my mind that the HI kerambit is a most lethal weapon and probably entirely capable of far more than 60% as no other keramabit I've seen could double as a club or chop down a George Washington cherry tree in a pinch.
Just won't be doing many of those things with me driving. I'm a lover not a fighter and when I has to fight I'm a shooter, not a cutter although in a pinch I could quickly switch tactics.
I hold nothing against folks what want to be knife fighters or sword fighters, have a ball, just not for me.

I hear ya brother... I will always grab my 1911 or glock23 (main carry pieces) over the karambit. I usually wear my knives on my weak side. You never know when someone is going to grab for your pistol or you have to restrain an attacker with your dominate hand. Its always a good idea to have a backup plan (besides the .380 in my pocket). The HI kamarbit does have a curve in it... it might not be a bill type hook but it has plenty of reverse curve geometry to accomplish most techniques. I always try and get the most out of my equipment, whether its addons or techniques.

I am a lover not a fight too. Being 6 foot 5 and 295lbs usually deters most attackers. I haven't been in a fight since high school, but I always am prepared with equipment and techniques to defend myself or any innocent people out there. Sheep dogs must keep their teeth and claws sharp even if they never need to bite the wolf.

I came across this guy and he is the best kamarbit instructor I have seen yet. He has a ton of videos for others who are interested

Alright, got mine yesterday and took some pics. It's a beautiful specimen, though I will definitely be doing some minor work to it. The tip is a little round, so I'll grind that a smidge, and the ring is a little rough on the inside. Overall, I love this blade, but I'm not sure it will boot the Micro Bowie off my hip. Possibly a backwoods EDC blade to compliment a full size khuk, or on special occasions, but the main thing is that the blade length is definitely over MA legal limit (the Bowie is questionable, but it's a little less "scary" looking). I also am not a knife fighter, and will be using this blade in a standard grip 95% of the time (sorry guys..) I'm basically planning on using this blade as a mini-khukuri that has a ring, instead of a kerambit.

Here are the pictures.

This grip is OK, but even my small hands are cramped in this position.

This is the most comfortable and useful grip position, in my opinion.

And the reverse grip, which feels great but has absolutely no use to me

Agree on all counts, mine needs a little cleansing inside the ring as well, it is a tad scarier looking than the bowie. I do believe you got bigger hands than me. I do think that grip forward with the trigger finger on that spot where the cho usually is is quite comfy and useful.

My blade is perfect and a tad bit over legal here as well but I don't get overwrought on little details like that.
I'm pondering an inside the waistband type carry sheath so only the handle and the ring are exposed. Might be a bit less intimidating that way.

I also as gurkha mentioned always wear my knife on the weak side, I call them my get off me knife as it's there to stab the hand that tries to grab my primary protection, the 1911 on the strong side.

The kerambit might work good, I can grab it weak hand reverse grip and the angle is perfect for stabbing my right side, or I can grab it conventional cross draw with my right hand when the need arises.

I too doubt it will bump my bowie off my hip, I do love that bowie a bunch, but this kerambit sings and deserves to ride along from time to time as well.

I'm daydreaming about some stag on it but it'll take a lot of pondering to build up my nerve to do that. Lachu did a fine job on this one, handle is super nice as is and I'm afraid to mess it up.

Yes... Mine needs a little work too. The handle scales go into the ring so I kinda have a half ring. Both of yours seem alright. I started filing down the excess horn last night. I am going to round the edges of the ring too.

What part of MA are you in? I live there too.

Bawanna, not many guys I know have smaller hands than me, but I've been surprised before. Auntie said she sent me one with a small handle, so perhaps that could be part of it? I like where you're going with the IWB carry. I normally wear my Bowie on my right, dominant, side, since I don't have a hundgun riding there. God only knows how broke I would be if I actually got my Class A... Anyway, even I might wear this one cross-draw like I do most of my other khuks. In utility use, it doesn't really matter what side the blade is on, and in a pinch, my right hand would probably shoot to the folder in my back right pocket, leaving the left to reverse-grip draw the K-bit. Though again, I doubt the emergency use would ever happen, especially if this gets most of its use in the woods. But then again, I'd likely have a khukuri on the left side...ahh I don't know. This little knife hurts my brain :p

GB, I'll send you an email
Edit: Hmm seems I can't email you. I'm up by Lowell, how far is that from you?

I didn't get a message. Try emailing me through the forum? I know Bawanna and cul have said they couldn't PM me

Man that's weird... I am in Ipswich. Right on the north shore. I tried the forum email but it didn't work. I'm about 30 minutes away from you. I live in the rural part of the north shore. Good hiking and horse back around here

That's not far at all! I'm just over in Dracut, but I've hiked and hung out in Ipswich. What a small world, makes me wonder if anyone else is so close.

It would be cool to meet up and share some blades at some point. I'm trying to figure out a good way to get you my email. Maybe I'll leave it as a visitor message then you can delete it? Not sure how that works..

Ok I just upgraded to Basic so I could send you a PM

Back on the subject of Kerambits, I was able to grab a picture with the Bowie and the Bit together. I can't believe how similarly sized they are! The Kerambit feels bigger, and has a longer blade, but in terms of carry, they would take up almost the same space.

Here is my Bowie and Kerambit

And then both of them compared to cul's first gen IBBB. That little knife has got to be about the best all around EDC blade I've come across in my life.

Edit: forgot the second pic..

Here is mine. It's a little larger than the other two. I think Auntie picked one out for my massive hands. I had to modify the horn a little. I am still not finished. I need to finish the ring off and smooth the horn.

I love the balance. Here is my IBBB that Bawanna himself checkered and blued. The bluing went all the way to the edge and was a deep black. I carry it daily and use it for everything, hence its wear.

Now that's a balanced blade.

Dude, you got some giant mitts

I didn't recall bluing that knife, I guess I best reschedule that memory test after all.

It's looking good.

Mine balances right there too!! I enthusiastically showed my brother, but for some reason he was not as impressed as I. Looks like the tip is he same on yours too. It's almost like the tip is double edged, but not quite. Hard to describe if you aren't looking at it.

I do remember reading the thread where you got the bowie and sent it to Bawanna. Lemme see if I can channel some Steve here...

Ooh, found it! http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1258646-Micro-Bowie-My-first-IBBB-(pics)
