Happy, happy, happy!

Another little village pen knife. Now I can have one in each kit. :)

Im done buying stuff until after Daikomyosai, but damn if that antler ganga ram isnt a centerpiece...

HI and Miss Yangdu continue to amaze...

Supercongrats to Norm on another unique khukuri. Big monster, after me own heart. Nice, nice.

"What are you going to use it for" is a question you never have to answer- you collect khukuris. Period. Better'n baseball cards. :D :D :D

Don't know how strong the antler is, but hope it holds up.

(Why would Bura pin a 29 oz. Dui Chirra, but not a 45 oz. GR?

Maybe because of the chandan on the DC?)

Regards,

Norm

Norm, the GRS has a full stick tang and is peened over at the end. The buttcap is only apparent in the first pic with all the khukuris.
Surprised you didn't catch that with your eagle eye. :p ;) :D hehehehe.

Ya wuz exsighted now warn't ya?;)

Of course! I wasn't thinking at all. No I knew the GRS had a buttcap and full tang, I saw that. But equally obviously the Dui Chirra has a hidden tang so I was comparing apples to some other kind of fruit for sure. Duh...! :foot:

But yeah! I was excited. I have a beautiful 17.25" 27 oz. BGRS with smooth antler, and this will make a nice match to it. I logged on purely by chance within 1 minute of Yangdu's post, and still was the second or third respondent to her.

I swear the new stuff just keeps coming! What else can I sell...;)

Logged on by CHANCE within a minute of Yangdu's post ????

I call that sharkies' instincts ;)

Well I for one am pleased to see that Yangdu's Katunje Specials are moving well. I got one of the first ones, satisal handled, some months back and fell in love with it. So much so that I quickly added one in Neem, one in horn, and another in antler.

The Katunje is one sweet khuk with the most captivating blade form, IMO.

Well done, Yangdu and Kamis!

I just pulled into town, back from Billings and the cutting table.

I go to this thread, see that noble large blade, and my very first thought:

"Gee, I hope Norm gets it."

:D Wow, thanks for the kind thought Munk! Typically nice of you, and I'll bet that made all the difference! It looks like a real piece of work. I have actually been following my model pretty well, just buying with $ from sales, but I knew not to wait on this one so need to scramble to cover it.

I'm sure the Kami's are wondering what kind of crazy American would want such a knife, but I know Nasty has done some serious chopping with his GRS's and this is only a couple of inches longer.

I'll see what I can chop up with this one... (-: I have some scrap 6X6's from some gate posts we put in, and those will give it a good run. If I were in your backyard I would have more than I could use, but here in the big city I have to go looking hard for stuff to chop.

Thanks again for your good wish. I really am pleased that you did so.

Regards,

Norm

Sounds familiar Noah! I got two early ones in satisal and horn several months ago. Habaki bolsters, and slightly longer handles. Extremely comfortable. My daughter immediately pronounced them perfect for her hand.

Then I got one of the newer ones from the batch of 9 or so that came several weeks ago, in dark neem, and wrote about that. Exquisite work, although the handle is a bit shorter, but a standard bolster by default now. My daughter found that one even more appealing. And then a couple of days ago got an antler one in a DOTD. The chandan ones are gorgeous, but I'm going to have to draw the line here somewhere, and would have to give up one of the older ones were I to get one of those.

So satisal, horn, neem, antler. Great minds think alike! :D

Norm

Norm, other folks with a type of intuition or even precognition find wonderful spiritual truths. Me? I must be on the Khukuri Psychic Hot line.

At 24" and only 45 oz, your new blade should be easier to swing for longer periods of time than the former HI dinosaurs. It will have some mechanical advantage over a shorter 22 inch model, yet is still within a practical length range. I think it'll be a mean machine.

It is very beautiful.
(If something should ever happen to your handle, knock on wood, it will still be a very unique and rare peice. You know what? I could even send you some replacement antler.)
But anyway, as Bill would sometimes say of a particular khuk and forumite; "Norm, this one had your name written all over it."

Enjoy. I get a real kick out of some of your scores.
