The only thing that has me wondering, is that it is 17.5 inch 33 ounce and the website shows it to be About 18 inches and only 1 lb & 6 oz...
33 ounces seems a BIT(!!!) overweight!!!

Well it's either a typo at 23 oz. or it's 5/8" wide on the spine.:)

Either way I bet you'll like it.:)

Ohhh, I most likely will.:D
Only problems, I see with this one, is that the 2 kardas look VERY close in size to each other, the awl looks like it has no point(is this the one that the sample broke in shippment, and they though that was what is was supposed to look like???), and that the scabbard does not seem to have the diorama tooled into it...Was that a normal feature? Or just something that the first one had?

At Last you shark Bastids! I GOT ONE!!

I have NO IDEA why I just Bought that HUGE GRS.

But I did.

This was a very funny post. I remember the feeling.

Hope it is a joy for you.

James the kardas do look very similar in size, but you could always trim the length off the shorter one to make it more usable.
Ever since Dan had the larger YCSs made it hasn't ever quite been the same since and it isn't the same khukuri I designed.
I truly do dislike the Chiruwa khukuris although they do have their place.:(

The very first awls *Had* a sharp point like they were supposed too. Evidently the awl somehow got its point broken off in the shop at some point, no pun intended and since then they have all come with blunt points.:o :(
A short session on a bench grinder will take care of the point for you.

As for the diorama the tooling on all the scabbards was discontinued a long time ago now. It wasn't just limited to the YCS.
I have two or three scabbards with the tooling but I really prefer the plain scabbards, mostly anyway.
I do like the tooling on my BGRS scabbard and especially on my 21"+ Chitlangi. ;) :D

We'll see how I am after my coming back surgery and if I get to where I can stand up for any length of time at my Grizz I'll gladly put a point on the awl for you if you'll pay shipping to and from. :D

Ammazing how handy these things are in the kitchen...

Congradulations and HAPPY HUNNI MOON!!!

Really!

I would love to have another YCS that was say 24 to 28 oz. I wish they'd make a lighter version.

I have them in 27, 32 and 38 oz. The chandan is 38 and it is a handful, but when you cut something it gets cut! (-: The checkerboards that went out that I got were a very handy 27 oz.

Wish I could have handled one of the old non-chiruwa ones, but those were long gone by the time I showed up.

Just what is 'Chiruwa'... I keep hearing it, but have not seen a defination...
I was hopeing to one just like you designed... What changes do the new ones have???
And I truely hope that they get you fixed up soon... I must be very bad to have them keep leading you one over and over again with no resolution...

James the Chiruwa tang is a full exposed tang with handle slabs on each side of it, as you would see in any full tang knife. As opposed to a hidden tang knife or partial tang knife. They offer great strength, but also can transmit more vibration to your hand when chopping. Many people don't think that the standard tang models need any reinforcing, and as they have lasted for a hell of a long time through brutal conditions without coming loose, their point is well taken.

The only reason I like the full chiruwa tang sometimes on some models is that it serves to balance the blade much better. I would love to see a big dui chirra or Junge with a chiruwa tang, but it would obviously add several ounces to a knife that already weighs at least 2 pounds.

I wanted to hold an older YCS to see how it balances with a hidden tang, but unfortunately no one is stepping forward to provide me with one for testing. ;) But I have a big hanuman AK and I would guess it would feel somewhat similar...

Norm

Why, oh why, did that big neem-handled GRS have to show up while I was in transit and unable to see it? :grumpy:

Guess it just wasn't meant to be...

OK I know this is wrong. People should not behave like I am about to.

[nelson from the Simpsons voice] Ha ! Ha! [/nelson from the Simpsons voice]

I missed dozens of knives I wanted since I got HIKV. So you are just

TOOOOOOOOO SLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!:p

na na na na na na na na heeeeeyyyy Tooooo slooooo-o-ow!

Ok that was fun..... Sorry I just never grew up.

Nothing wrong with a little gloating... :) *thinks fondly of his falcata*

But, it was more a matter of wrong place than wrong time. :grumpy:

Post to post 2:47-3:10... That was the most frustrating part looking at it a day later. If I'd been near a computer, I'd have grabbed it before 2:48. ;)

Just showed my wife the wedding pics, and she commented that you could probably serve the cake with that tool!:D

Well I just got my hands on that GRS. Dude I almost wish you had bought it.
Holly crap this thing is huge. I can swing it one handed but I can not stop it or control it when I do. This thing needs a two handed grip.

But it is beautiful. Bura or the Bura Co-operative sure made a nice blade this time.

I got three in the mail today :D

Got the Villager BGRS 16.5" Tuni wood which is just a hair short of 17". The 12" Katunje my special chandan wood by Kumar and the 13.5 inch 17 ounce BDC Evergreen wood.

I really like the BDC made by Bura. It really feels good in my hand.:D

I'm starting to like the chirra on the BDC. Time to start thinking about a Chitalangi......
