Is an Amar Singh Thapa Knife without it's distinctive pinning and a non chiruwa handle still an ASTK? I think it's a nice looking knife; but I'm just not sure this is the right classification. Three nice choices today.

omg that AK is so sweet

I JUST bought a Khukri, what is this compulsion....

Yes, it is just a non-chiruwa model ASTK.

E-mail sent.

EDIT: Oops, Pete, it's yours. I waited a moment too long. :(

My bills are all paid but I have to wait for funds to clear before i snag another khuk :(

check the DOTD FAQ's, you have to send an email to yangdu to confirm it. posting in the forum means nothing, it's typically just used to inform other sharks that the piece has been spoken for.

Apparently, posting here doesn't count for much. I was denied the knife.

Pete, you were first. I've just e-mailed Yangdu to that effect. Now, we both know for next time that e-mail is the way to reserve a product - I'm not about to buy it from under you. Take good care of that knife, willya? :D

Though that indeed is the policy as I recalled it, in the interest of simply being fair (and I have quite a few HI products), I've given him the choice of getting it. I'm patient - there will be other deals. :)

That is very kind of you, and I will graciously and humbly accept the knife.:D
I will do a better job in the future of following the rules as well.
Thank you very much for your kind generosity.

Nice move Third Rail.  Good for you! I know you'll get something nice in return.

I had the DOTD on speed dial for 2 years, with emails written to Yangdu in advance. I only had to fill in the knife name and hit "send."

Most of you new guys have no idea how frenzied the shark waters were here, and we had guys (SASSAS comes to mind) who would snag something within seconds of its posting. That guy drove me crazy he was so fast. I recall there was a short run of 20" 3-pin handled M-43's and he snagged ALL of them, not to mention several Berk's Special Dui Chirras. I really wanted one of those M-43's, but then he just dropped off after a while.

Yangdu would put up the DOTD and there would be 30 or 40 guys just circling, and 5 or 6 knives would be gone in 5 minutes!

This is a long-winded way of saying that many times I would be the first to send email, and the first to say "email sent" on the forum here, and my triple-cursed MS Exhange server at work would choke and I would end up with squat.

It's all about the fastest email, and word to the wise, if you're shopping at all then have your email composed, computer free, subject entered as "DOTD for 2/17" or whatver, quickly type in the model and send it off.

Regards,

Norm

Well, I've been schooled now, and by all rights Third Rail was first on the email, and it is rightfully his knife.
I cannot in good conscience accept the piece without first acknowleging that Third Rail has "first dibs."
If you would like it, you certainly may have it, I can wait for the next deal as well...
PM sent.
