I can attest to this. Used to carry a machete (for bush clearing) and hatchet (for chopping and splitting fire wood) for camping. Both have been replaced by a kukri which can do the tasks of both equally well. All my kukris outchop my old hatchet actually :)

That is kind of what I've been thinking while looking at these. and some come with those little by-knives, so that's a one stop toolchest for an outdoorsman.

The 13" Chiruwa Ang Khola for $85 is a good example - comes with the small knife (Karda) and also a steel for fixing the blade. If you want a nice hatchet replacement then that would be a good buy.

I have a 13 3/8 inch CAK by Sher (tiger), with a smooth (M43) style handle. I can't speak highly enough about it. Small enough not to pull your pants down, but 7/16ths thick on the spine. white metal fittings, and I deeply blued the blade. That thing is locked, cocked and ready to rock, lemme tell you.

I've sent it to a guy to get some new pants for it and will be happy to get it back. Next to get pants will be my 'bit.

My Ganga Ram arrived this morning and I can't wait to go camping and try it out. I have sharpened the blade with mousemat & sandpaper (first 400 grit, then 1200 grit) and then stropped. It is just sharp enough to shave. I have also sharpened the Karda to a good 'shaving sharp' standard.

15" doesn't seem overly big to me, it shouldn't be too hard to pack. It does have a bit of heft to it - but I am not an ultralight hiker or anything and I don't mind a bit of weight. The fit & finish seems pretty good and the knife overall looks great. This is a nice first HI knife for me.
