Deals for 3/24 -- Pix and five beauties

QUOTES:

"$150 a month? Try almost twice that amount every week for a couple of years! At that rate you are just mildly infected. Some of us are HIKV terminal."

"...almost $1400 in the last 21 days, I should be in ICU."

You guys must make lots of money....
I don't make enough to have that much "disposable income."

I already have too much on my cards, but remember,

Debt is good.

You gotta love Norm. There are collectors as great as he, but they are usually much more quiet. (Well, except for that pond swimming honking cave dwelling Duck.....) Many of the big collectors, like the Great Whites themselves, go about their business silently. Norm gives us blow by blow accounts, and I love them.

munk
{Norm} Hmmm. Well, actually I hope that is not too much the case. I think I have seen this verbiage before actually, so that's not good. FYI, I thought that I was very quiet for the first year when I did the majority of my sharking...

For the last year have financed much of it thru the sale of some of the first years stuff.. {Norm}

<rest of unneeded apology and explanation snipped and edited 4/2>

Actually, this is not the case, and frankly this seems to me to be a classic backhanded passive / aggressive put down, despite the last 4 words which attempt to mask the not so subtle criticism within the "compliment." I hope I am mistaken.

FWIW, If I gave a "blow by blow" account of all my HI purchases there would be no other threads on the forum. However, I should have not mentioned my expenditures, and have edited that post and written to others who quoted it asking them to edit their posts as well to remove the reference. I was responding to Soupah and got carried away.

(Arty, I could not reach you via email or PM, but would appreciate your editing your Post #21 of the 3/24 thread to remove the reference to my quote, even though my name is not mentioned. Thanks.)

Over the past few days, I have also searched through BF and edited any posts or pictures that could be perceived as bragging, and that effort is ongoing. I can't stand braggarts, and don't want to take a chance that some posts are being perceived that way.

Going forward for a while, I'll let all those other mysterious Great White Shark Super Collectors (Sounds like a secret Gov't scientific facility!) that I don't know about post about their stuff instead, or not. :D.

No problem and no worries , just wanted to clarify before perception becomes reality and it affects me in a negative light.

Thanks!

Norm

Norm?

Dunno about the rest of your life, but I think your conduct here is just fine.

A lot of us live vicariously through folks who are kind enough, and generous enough to take the time and effort to talk about their knives and the uses, as well as some of the history of their acquisition. When you explain that one knife cost $XX more when you got it a year ago, you only make the offerings of H.I. that much more attractive.

You are a pillar of this house.

Thank you. I'm indebted to you.

Norm,
I just happened to be here because an old sales thread was showing activity. It's a little distressing to read you wonder if I meant a back handed compliment. I hope you weren't hurt. It was not there. That wouldn't be right and I wouldn't do that.
I enjoy your collecting! It is wonderful. I enjoy it the same way I enjoy watching someone build or collect and drive a car they love, or a rifle, or- you get the idea.

Norm, you are a mainstay of the forum, a friend of mine, and a general all around good guy.

God, I shouldn't even have to say this. What is happening around here? Norm, keep collecting and fill us in on all the details. We all get a kick out of it or we would not be here.

No, no, no... Please do not edit your old posts to remove stuff...
I hate it when people do that...
It is like altering history!!! And I HATE revisionist history!!!

Everyone LOVES to read about your(and others) acquisitions...
Why else would we take the time to read about them!!!

I wish forums had the revision history functions like wiki's do...
That way, when people edit things, others cannot get the idea that they are trying to cover things up...

Please people... Everyone is just acting like they are one a KNIFE EDGE(no pun intended)!!!
What is going on???
This forum has been one of my favorites for a while now, and I hate to see what has been happening the last few weeks...:(

Things change James...ride it out a bit and things will settle back down.

I also get a vicarious thrill seeing what folks get...especially now that my por old shark teeth have been dulled temporarily.

I was riding through Indian country in the 60's, when they had those real small houses. I mean small; 1/2 scale of a real home. Weather beaten, rotten, boards falling down, and the desert sands blowing past the broken glass windows through the house. The cows walked in absentmindedly as they were grazing. But some of those homes had been painted bright colors. Happy colors. The kind of thing you would do if you felt free enough to.
I liked them. I liked the people who painted those houses against all odds happy colors
Only slightly differently, do I enjoy watching my friends gather great khukuri collections. A life affirmation.

James, as you've noticed, things have changed/are changing. The people who are bothered by that will fade away over time, and stop rocking the boat. It's happened before. I may join them, I may not. Newcomers will not notice the difference, won't know that times used to be different (better? better.)

A lot of words are thrown out/offered, in the interests of the perceived notion that all threads and posts should be kept alive, responded to. It is inevitable that some of these will cause insult (a little strong), offense (ditto), consternation (at least).

Norm, YOU have nothing to apologize for.>>>>>>>> Aardvark

No, he never did have anything.

I don't understand why enjoying Norm's collecting was misunderstood by him to be a, 'back handed passive aggressive putdown."

This was a place of friends. I could go up to a guy on the street and say: 'nice boat you have there Mister', without him turning to me and asking if this was a passive aggressive putdown.

What changed?

What has changed? And if some of the change has not been for the good, what could we do about it?

Not 'changing' We are evolving - A sometimes painful but necessary process for survival.
Always has been - always will be:D

Edit - nearly forgot.
Norm, as Louis Prima used to say - Play Yourself:thumbup:

Sorry I stirred things up, really. Just wanted to clear the air. I know this has been a tough week for the forum, but Nasty and others have the right handle on it, as usual.

(Actually Nasty's emails over the past couple of days reminded me of someone, and at first I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I remembered: Nathan, my third flight instructor, after the other two left the company. When I would do something semi-stupid the first instructor would sigh and take over, while the second one would scream like a total jerk and pound the door. Nathan was different. After one power-off stall at 5,000 feet at 10 p.m. at night in total darkness, when I dropped the wing and we started to go into a spin, Nathan remarked calmly, "OK, we are now spiraling down to our deaths. Better do something," in the same tone of voice one might say, "Fries with that please." :D After recovery he treated it like I had had some trouble adjusting my seat harness. No big deal! So I appreciate that attitude.)

Certainly could have been wrong, again, so nothing new there, but right or wrong that's how I saw things. Bunch of great folks here, and your input and opinions are all very valuable to me, and looking forward to seeing your posts on all things khukuri related.

Again, sorry for the dust up; sometimes things just bug you, _whether they are legitimate grievances or not_, and you have to say what's on your mind. ;)

Thanks for listening.

That's what family is for Norm...

Does this mean we're not spiraling to our deaths after all?
that's good.

Aardvark; If you have ideas or concerns you'd like known, there is a thread on Forum Change by 45/70 in the Cantina. If that is not the right venue, you can always write privately to Yangdu or Nasty or myself.
