Deals for 3/27 -- Pix Thamar Tin Chirra and great buys

Sure now problem. This one is a little heavier than my Thamar Dui Chirra which is 17in 23oz. The Tin Chirra here seems to have a radically curved grip which I prefer. I will post pics of all this one and the Thamar pieces together. He might not be the best polisher but he sure knows how to build a solid, and extremely well balanced kukri. His blades balance and fit the hand better than any other kami. Purna is a close 2nd with his grip design and comfort.

I'm looking forward to that! Really, TBH, your prize today is breathtaking, it's probably the nicest blade type I've seen coming out of his hands.

Mine is a little bit forward, so you really feel when you swing it, makes it feel even stouter than it is.

I'm not sure the kami himself even does the polishing, might be different fella, don't know for sure.

Whoever did my curved spine did a fabulous job of polishing too.

Ok, Mr. Bawanna, I take that back Sir.

As it happens, I just asked somewhat recently about it, and Karda said it's another person that is doing the polishing. But I agree - the blades are gorgeous, fit and finish seems to be below Purna's but I don't own anything from Purna - but that's what I read. Still, I'd sacrifice perfection for the beauties he is building.

That Tin Chirra just 'bout gave me a heart attack. Think I can see my own reflection in it on my computer screen! Grats Gurkha.

I personally would not put Thamar below Purna, I've seen both and that should be reversed. Purna makes a really fine knife, no question, but Thamar, well he's as close to perfection as your gonna get unless Bura goes back to pounding the steel.

I don't criticize either or any of them far as that goes but imho Thamar is second to no one.

only difference in quality between purna and thamar is the cho-- overall they make them about the same weight in to length and the same curve, so I would put thamar equal to purna in blade construction just from looking at them beside each other and the feel in the hand. never done cutting tests but I think the edge would tell the difference if one is better than another, I always thought it was more about the temper than anything-- but I am a non craftsman, just guy with too much time :D

Personally, I like all the kamis, they all have their specialties for sure. The curved handles of Purna and Thamar are really comfortable. Their blades are impeccable masterpieces.

In truth, I do not truly believe that any kamis is above another, but all are generally equal, but they all excel in certain aspects of khukuri making, such as, handles, lines, fullers, edge geometry, sharpness, length to weight ratio, carvings, large blades, overbuilt blades, etc...

++ cul, sher will be missed for that very reason, and it is also reason I hope raj kumar comes back, just because he liked to experiment. but that extra mile for the old style cho does go a very long way to making thamar's blades extremely fine, but nobody has a better kami mark than purna, I think we can all agree on that:D

I keep coming back to look at that tin chirra. Amazing!

Quite haunting, indeed. Same here :).

Well, I can go only by what I have, from Thamar, and the handle could have used just a little extra in the finishing department. The polishing did not reach all spots and there is where rust seems to be more likely to creep (I'll have that sorted out) - otherwise, the polish does indeed seem to offer better resistance against rust. But it is so small of an "issue", and I am so far from a perfectionist, that I don't really care strictly from a looks POV - all my knives will be scratched etc.

Hearing others comment about the perfect handles on the Purna ones I thought this is where you'd have a difference.

Thamar's blades are really what made me skip for now buying an AC old kukri and also look at other kukri providers that go more old school. I think I would've risked a little otherwise, just to satisfy my admiration for the classic designs. Now I have yet another reason to stay with HI.

So, I am not complaining - each knife is unique, and the Kumar blem and being a villager is even less refined at the handle, while I've seen astonishing fit and finish in pictures here from him. Still I love both, and look forward to purchasing more.

I always forget mention Bhakta when discussing my favorite kamis. Bhakta has some of the cleanest work out there. High level of fit and finish and attention to detail. Bhakta is gold!

I'm told it's being shipped today. I've no doubt this one will arrive, unless USPS just hates the idea of me having a Kuk, lol.

I bet Thamar could make a mean Fox Folly:thumbup:
Yeah.... i hadda come back for another look too!
