Deals for 4/13 --Pix Salyan, Tarwar, Pen Knife and Great Buys

The drastic belly on that Pen Knife would make it a good skinner / game knife. good snag.
I was very tempted to purchase that Tarwar, those zombies are not going to re-kill themselves you know. I ended up getting a good khuk off of another forumite.

How did you know that tarwar was destined for zombie re-killing duty ?

It is a 30" killing weapon with a wide blade profile and thick spine, this typically means hacking/cleaving is its forte'. Plus, it looks a hell of a lot more stable that the run of the mill katana, which I dont think would last as long against a hoard of zed as these Tarwars.

I will need to start working out if I want to swing both the Tarwar and my 20.5 inch Ang Khola at the same time like Miyamoto Musashi !!
If done correctly though, it would be like a zombie food processor.

I just received my Salyan Uncle Bill Memorial knife..and I want you t know I am very impressed...Thirta did a find job and even though it's a small knife :compared to HI" it fits well in my larger hands...the weight is extremely balanced and the finish is very, very nice...well worth the investment...thanks again Yangdu....love it

HI TARWAR BY RAJKUMAR - Sharked it on Wednesday, arrived on Saturday. Now that is service.
I gave it a little BLO love and a good sharpening. Very nice work (again) by RAJKUMAR Kami. It has a great feel in my hand, the handle itself is slightly tapered to allow me to slide it home to just the right spot. Balance is 3.75 inches past the hilt. The first night I chopped a couple of hanging branches in my yard a little bigger than a good size man's thumb in circumference. Never even felt the blade hit - they just fell to the ground, and that was before my sharpening.
Another happy HI customer. The detail on the handle work is beautiful, nice carvings and great fit.

What i really like about this Tarwar is the curved butt;
Tapered butt makes a firm grip especially something this big and the curvature sorta "locked" your grip as you swing around.

Exactly how it feels. Thinner near the hilt for a real positive grip and slightly tapered with a "Stopping" point before the bottom. Great blade, I would recommended one to anybody looking for a quality short sword under $300.
Does anyone know about the heat treatment of the Tarwar style blades ? Is it just a small sweet spot or is more of the edge hardened ?

Good info and great in hand photo's.

I would be indebted to you if you would measure the circumference of the grip at the guard and also about where your hand is in the first photo please?

I am 'blessed' with small(ish) hands :o and have been thinking long and hard about whether to go after the chiruwa style versus traditional grip on the Tarwar and would find your measurements very helpful deciding which to choose?

The brass fitting under the hilt is 3.8 inches.
IMG_1366.jpg

The wood handle at the very top is right at 4" and gradually thickens a bit so by the first pin it's about 4.15".
IMG_1367.jpg

By the second pin it's right on at 4.25".
IMG_1368.jpg

The circumference at the bottom pin has jumped up to 4.5 inches.
IMG_1369.jpg

The "tang" area (is that right?) where the handle opens up at the bottom is 5.5 inches - measuring from the "point" on the handles side.
IMG_1370.jpg

All in all a very positive grip - the top carving is in the correct spot as it goes right into the sweet spot of my hand - the webbing between thumb and index finger.
IMG_1371.jpg

Depending on how I "choke it" the top circle of carvings either are a perfect bed for my index finger or thumb.

With the index finger on the 1st carving the second set is right where my pinky finger rests.
When choked up using my thumb on the 1st carving my ring finger grabs the second carvings. There is just enough room to get a very firm grip using both hands, with the bottom hand wedged to a stop on the "lip" of the tang.

Beautiful and functional design, and great detail work by Rajkumar. All in all a very different feel from my 20.5" Khuk, which was my first HI purchase and my first big blade. The incredible chopping power of the Khuk cannot be matched by a straight blade. For slashing and stabbing this wins hands down over my Khuk though. This sword feels like it could be used one handed effectively, saving the other hand for........my Khuk !!

Very nice tarwar pics! This is certainly a user and I wouldn't want to be the zombie to attack its owner :-)
My 36" OAL chiruwa tarwar is far more difficult to wield quickly, especially in a one-handed Musashi stance. Good thing zombies are slow... Or are they?!

Hiya HairahSitna,

Much appreciate your time and effort to take the measurements and then photo's too! They are of assistance, along with your comments about its one handed handling dynamics.

My sincerest 'Thank You!'

And alexs, what a beast of a Tarwar you own. I had missed your thread about it when you originally posted it. Glad that you posted the link and I'm sure many others will enjoy reading it too!

The trouble HI folks go to for each other is one of the things that make this forum so special.

Namaste
