Yeah Bigbore....I almost pulled the trigger on that YCS.....Purdy ain't it.

I have a crow knife by Kumar, should'a sprung for it......

I would have a hard time picking out a favorite of that line up between the baby foxy, the jkm, and that large karda.

I think the karda would win by a hair. Looks like a great hiking knife.

I'm glad you are capable of making a decision. If I went hiking it would be with a pack mule.

Nice BB! That YCS Karda would've been my pick too! I'll wait for another in wood, to match my YCS khuk set.

I got it for the same reason dta116 mentioned, to match my Crow knife. A YCS set like you mentioned would be the epitome.

Wow...really shouldn't get the BAS but it's calling to me....fingers crossed someone snatches it up before tomorrow or I'll be helpless. Woulda scopped the JKM too so thanks dta, you saved me.

E-mail sent in the chainpuri knife.

I am new to the kukri world and this forum but I've been eyeing these Himalayan Imports kukris for a long time.

Does anyone know if the chainpuris are true functional kukris or are they more of a decoration item?

Decoration? There are no HI products that are decorational. Functional works of art though, yes, they are.

What Cul said. Some may be more decorated than others, some very much so. However, first and foremost they are tank tough working tools made by some of the most learned, talented and expert craftsman/Kamis in Nepal using the utmost of traditional manufacturing processes. You won't be disappointed or receive a tourist grade product. Quite the contrary. Welcome aboard.

They are fully functional but you might want to leave the carved wood & brass sheaths at home when you take the knife camping or hiking. Apart from not wanting to mar a piece of art, I've found that sometimes the fancy hardwood & brass sheaths are not as good at retaining the knife as the more common sheath made of soft wood wrapped in leather. There are ways to fix that of course, or you can rig up an ugly but functional sheath for outings.

You know what FINALLY forced my hand regarding packing light on a hike?
My 53lb 5 year old lead-brick of a daughter who wants to ride on my back when come to a hill:D

EMS for the 12 inch 16 ounce BDC by Lachhu. Horn handle. $125. I'm a sucker for that length... just can't resist.

I assume BDC is "Bura's Daily Carry" yes?

Thanks for the information everyone. I'm looking forward to receiving my first kukri and such a beautiful one at that.

The truth is that this knife will probably see more display than use since I only make the occasional trip into the woods, but I still have no interest in owning something that isn't functional. From the specs I've looked at this looks like a medium sized blade instead of one of the really heavy duty choppers which should be perfect for my needs. But I'm still learning about some of the differences in blade size and shape and I may be wrong on that.

As far as getting another sheath for carrying it around that shouldn't be a problem. Just a couple days ago I was talking to a friend of mine who has started making kydex pistol holsters and knife sheathes and he happened to show me a very nicely done kydex sheath he had made to attach his kukri to his pack. He said he would be willing to show me how he makes them so I could make one of my own.

Never seen a combination handle before. Looks to be wood above the ring and horn below. Pretty cool! Anyone have experience with this set up? I wonder if comfort or usability is enhanced, and if durability is compromised...

Which blade is it, I don't see a combo handle. But then, my eyes are horribly bad, so, I could easily miss something like that.
