Good eye, I missed it before. But the BAS does look like wood and horn.

I have a few models that are horn and stag or horn and bone. Never seen wood and horn.

I think it's pretty cool myself.
 
Holy smokes, you right! The BAS is a combo handle, I've never seen that combo, now to search the thread and see if anyone ems'd for it...:)

Ya cul, now you see why I was in such awe yesterday!! Been checking back every spare minute hoping someone would save me from myself, but I don't see an EMS yet, so...

EMS BAS :)

Part of me hopes I don't get it (my wallet), and the rest of me thinks it's practically stealing from Auntie at that price. Guess we'll see what happens!

Edit: Much to my surprise, I got the DD!! So excited to see this thing in person.

Congrats SG. I so wanted to pull the trigger, but I saw your post, and figured since I had one....I just had to let a buddy get one, and what a beautiful BAS it is too.
 
Thanks man! I had a Kumar BAS (my first HI blade) but I gave that to one of my best friends a while back. It was just a touch too heavy for me at around 26oz, and he's a bit bigger than me. Also it was horn and I'm not a huge fan of the way that feels. Been looking for another with a wood handle, but seeing as you really only hold the front half of the grip, it appears I can now have both the look of horn and the feel of wood!!

I wonder how the 2 materials are joined, and whether it will have an effect on durability after heavy use or not.

Oh wow. So I got my hands on the BAS last night. It feels like a dream. Exactly how I hoped. I was spot on about the look/feel. Perfect grip and feel where I'm actually holding, and the end is still kinda slippery which should help prevent blisters during prolonged use.

And in the looks department I'm blown away. It's just so impressive. The way the wood and horn meet is flawless, the grain in both materials is beautiful, and the inlay work on the blade is top notch. Definitely one of the stars in my collection, and has the makings of an ideal hiking/camping knife.

Here's a teaser pic cuz I didn't have enough time to do the full set this morning.
