Kumar's mark is the star. Does the sun you see have a pattern of basically four main blaze markings?
just had a look at it and yes, it is indeed a star, it confirms that kami Kumar made it,

CallsThunder,

I am curious as to how the elk handle compares to other materials in terms of feel, grip, etc. Thanks in advance.

Eric

Eric,
The grip feels similar to my others (horn and rosewood). What sets it apart is its beauty. The elk I have is on a pen kuk and it's larger than the other grips I have. It's much larger at the top and I tend to grip it with three fingers above and one below the ring. I also rest my thumb on the brass/metal bolster. I haven't chopped with it wet but it seems to grip just like the others. Again, it's the beauty I love about it. I am probably going to be sharking some more elk handled kuks when I get the chance.

Thanks, DanR (CallsThunder) for your comments on the elk handle. Visually, I generally prefer the contrast between the darker handle materials (wood or horn) and the blade. I may take the plunge on an elk-handled model at some point.

Eric,
I feel the same way about wood and horn. I've usually seen elk handles on bowies and such and many have the stubble and are rough. I haven't been interested in antler for that reason. However, this knife looked so smooth and the dark lines with the white background has a contrast all itself. You'll love it, I'm sure.
