congrats Eric, your collections is starting to get big uh :)

email sent on the Bilton,

Wow. What a BAS. MMM. That Chianpuri is a beaut too. Dang fellas, getem.

"congrats Eric, your collections is starting to get big uh"

I am under the impression that work by Sgt. Khadka does not come along very often. Also, I do not recall seeing a Chainpuri model among the DOTD offerings in recent weeks (I could be mistaken on that point, though). Bottom line - couldn't resist this one.

Happy sharking all. Probably won't be back in these waters until next week.

Eric

That Chainpuri is special. Nice snag Eric. First of that model by Sgt. Khadka, and bigger belly and less drop to the blade than normal with a chainpuri in any case. It's almost like a siru style with a chainpuri handle. The Villager style and neem handle are just additional plusses. Very nice work!

And nice grab for you as well Brian. The Sgt.'s BAS's are the best around IMO. I have a copy of this in horn, one of only a very few made, but this is the first he has done in this style in wood AFAIK.

Had I the money and been here on time I would have tried for both of these as I REALLY need more knives. ;)

Norm

Wow, with comments like yours, Svashtar (Norm), I feel even more fortunate to have gotten the Chainpuri today.

As a newbie to HI khukuris (more accurately, khukuris in general), I feel as though I am basically going on initial gut instinct when it comes to DOTD decisions. Maybe that's good enough for now. I am trying to learn as I go.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend all.

Ha, if I hadn't had to step out for 15 minutes at the wrong time, I would have tried for both of these as well.

Everytime I say "Ok, I have enough", Yangdu puts up more that I need.

Eric.

Notice that these have more traditional bolsters (not habaki). Hmm I wonder if the message is getting through?
I've been thinking that a more pointy and wood chiruwa handled BAS would be nice. I'm a big fan of Sgt Khadka's work, too. Got lucky today. Thanks for the comment Norm, and good sharking to you Eric ;)

Thanks, Bri in Chi (Brian). Same to you. If I hadn't gone for the Chainpuri, the BAS would have been my pick today.

Eric

Eric, that wood handle looks like it would really light up and glow with a little TLC. And I do mean tender. No power tools. And, should you decide to do a bit of handle work, be sure to cover the blade edge with a couple of layers of masking tape first, so you keep all you fingers intact.:) Don't ask me how I know that:( Take a look at Dean's tips and useful finds at the top for a ton of good ideas.

Brian,

Point well taken. Although I read the Safety thread early on, and have tried to be very conscientious about handling these knives, the WWII model I got a while back took a small bite out of my thumb in a moment's carelessness. (No permanent damage, but certainly a wake-up call.)
