I am totally broke, but email sent on the Bolo. Keeping my fingers crossed!

BTW, that Tarwar is a steal! Someone grab it quick.

Norm

Well, missed it by _that_ much! What I get for not seeing Yangdu's post for 2.5 minutes rather than 2. :(

Eric, did you get it? If so, congrats, and let us know how you like it. I'll get my hands on one eventually. I really like this dark Sisau wood. My ideal bolo would have dark hill walnut, but this will do nicely.

Norm

provided i have money that Tarwar is what i would need to protect me from the hell of a storm that is on the Montreal area now,

welcome on the 'weather channel / forum' :D ,

Yeah, I got it. I've been wanting one since Dave got his back in September and did his torture tests on it.

I completely missed the one that came up last month.

Don't feel too bad. I sent the email about 10 seconds after Yangdu posted. Only later I saw that it was cheaper than previous ones.

Bolo Stats:

This is the 5th HI Bolo.
This is the 2nd in Sisau (others are Rhododendron and Satisal?)
This the 2nd lightest (lightest is Dave's at 24oz, others are 30 and 32 oz.)
This is the 4th by Sher (first one back in 2002 was by Sanu)

Edited to show that I found another Bolo referenced that was bought outside the DOTD.

You're around water and boats all the time- you need a Tarwar.

Y'know, you're right. Seems piratical enough to me.

email sent on Neem Tarwar.

Ah, I'm sure it's already gone.

Same thing has happened with the Manjushris and other models Eric. They start off heavy, but as Sher (or other Kami's) tweak and refine them they usually tend to get lighter and more functional overall.

Bura made the first Tarwars close to 40 oz., but as he and Kumar have made new ones they have gotten lighter for the most part. I have one at 40 and a newer one at 34, but this one is Kumar's heaviest to date I think, so he's reversing the trend today anyway. Someone is going to get a unique blade, expecially with the neem handle.

The older Manjushris started at 36-37 oz., but over the next year started nearing 2 pounds on average. I think they're better for it.

Yeah, my Manjushree is 29 oz. It feels pretty good. I wonder if there are any lighter.

Ahh, a search turns up at least 5 lighter ones. It looks like I got the last one offered.

Eric.

It looks like there have been 5 Bolos, (at least), I found one sold outside the DOTD. Looks like wildmanh bought one the same day as Dave.

Updated stats above.

Eric.

OK, the Bolo Boys are a rare eclectic bunch. Not many in the group. Special for sure.
You could always use a Bolo to divide a peanut butter sandwich in half.

Mmmmm...peanut butter sandwich.

In the tradition of Dave's tests maybe I'll use mine to test how many peanut butter sandwiches you can cut through in one whack.

That probably fits my level of testing expertise.

Eric.

Corner to corner or straight across?
Works well for beheading chickens also.

Eric, you'll drive yourself crazy trying to keep track of all of them. I know because I use to be (and sometimes still am) as anal as you about all the different models. But now I just track what is sold on the DOTD. I know for instance of at least three 15" Pens that were not listed on your last stat for that model as they never were offered online. Same with several Manjushris, BDC's, Attitudes, 20" YCS's etc., etc., etc. There are often many more of a certain model out there than you might see online. Luckily Yangdu keeps us well supplied here.

Finally, my Tarwar appears. On a payday. With work projects that could use a good Tarwaring. And it last an hour or so. And I still miss it... Work's no-fun-net policy now owes me a Tarwar as well...

I reckon I could use my old Tarwar for cutting up trees and such, but it prefers the kind of limbs that spurt when you chop 'em. I keep it put away so society will be safe from my bloodthirsty ravages. :p :D

On a serious note, whoever snagged that Tarwar, get Leatherface or your local saddlemaker, etc., to rig you up a baldric. Trust me, a good sword baldric is the way to go, comfortable carry, and you can slip the sword on and off without tinkering with your belt or other gear.

Hello all,
a clumsy newbie entree:

I like that brown handled kukri, 3rd from the left - is it
"13 1/4 inch 14 ounce Katunje my special Khukuri made by Sher. Sisau wood handle. For good home $80 YBB."?

What's YBB? How can I order and purchase the blade?

1. YBB = Yangdu's Best Buy

2. E-mail Yangdu straight away for a deal of the day with the details which are a sticky post at the top of the forum entitled 'INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING. Please read!!!' :D http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198282

you have to be quick, so it is best to say

"13 1/4 inch 14 ounce Katunje my special Khukuri made by Sher. Sisau wood handle. For good home $80 YBB."? using copy and paste and say details to follow in 5 minutes. Send that and then send the other details straight away.

If you want one anyway, go to the HI website.

3. Overall length.
