I'm just staying on this thread, to scare other folks, checking to see who's viewing it (the longer the list at the bottom, the better) :D.

That, and those that see there's already a reply.

EMS 16.5 inch 21 ounce lite weight Knife by Thamar.

It's been long enough since I'm looking for a light one.
Was a hard choice between this and the Tamang.

Edit - Done Deal confirmed :-)

Done deal! Has anyone ever seen or heard of this model? What does the YCS stand for? I thought that was for the Yek. Chirra special

My wallet thanks you. I was eyeing that strange little knife.

Man, tamangs are AMAZING knives. I just used my 18" tamang to limb and break down my gigantic eucalyptus this weekend. Someone needs that knife!

Thats a Super YCS:eek: Cool stuff today!

sno: Thats sweet! It has a nice thick edge like the Samsher but superlight! What a combo. Great snag

Mmmm...Bash heaven...Way to go Doc:thumbup::p:thumbup:

Thamar knocked that light weight knife out of the park. What gorgeous lines!

As Steve Tall pointed out, it's the Yvsa Cherokee Special. This particular knife is unusual in that it comes with the YCS khukuri as a karda (larger than most HI kardas) but is also occasionally made in a larger size as a standalone knife.

Here's a YCS khukuri by Vim with two kardas and pointy tool:

This is a larger one by Kumar (11" OAL, 10 oz, red chandan handle) that I got as a standalone blade:

Thank you Steve and Dave... I knew I have seen that silhouette before. I love the carving on your example. I plan on using mine as a hiking and camp knife.

planning on picking up my first HI here within the next few days. Just looking for the right combo of Chopper, fine lines, and affordable price. I truly cannot wait :)

Welcome to the addictive world of HI steel. You will receive a blade like no other. It will tackle any chore you throw at it and it will last a lifetime. What will the primary role of your kukri be? Chopping... defense? Different models excel at different things. I would recommend a 18in WWII, it was my first kukri. It was a work of functionality art, once I saw the mirror polish blade I was hooked. The WWII is probably the most versatile kukri HI has. It excels at both chopping and fighting. My Bhakta example is one of the finest made kukris I own.

I just want an overall tank of a knife, that'll be wearable on my pack while working wildfire, and also a good camp knife. Chopping, batoning, defense if pushed to that roll. Though I really need to speak to local LEO to get their stance on open carrying fixed blades.

It all depends on what state you live in, that is if you like in the states lol. New Hampshire has no knife laws and you can open carry a kukri any public place you want. Massachusetts on the other hand will lock you up for even inspecting one in public. You cant even transfer a rifle to the trunk of your car unless its completely covered in a case. Ridiculous!!!!

I'm in one of the worst states for weapon possession. CA D: Like I said, I'll have to talk with law enforcement and get an idea on what's acceptable.

Edit: looks like you can carry a fixed blade, or locked open folder as long as sheathed and worn openly hanging from the waist. I wonder about a potential size limit though.

edit: just got off the phone with LA county sheriff and so long as the knife isn't covered at all, and is fully visible, there is no length limit. So the next question is, what length has you all found to be the max that is comfortable for belt carry. I'm 5' 10" 160lbs. Thanks for any help provided!
