Whoever gets the 18" Balance I sure would appreciate a field report on. We've all been wondering what kind of chopping characteristics a large Balance model would have.

there's some nice chit, by sher, ah, but the horn handle... if it were wood, it would be mine ;) wait, i can't afford these things. next time :)

To hell with it. I doubt I got it, but I've sent email on the 18" Balance model. I've wanted to know how such a beast would handle in the field for a long time, and the best way to find out is to go into debt, piss my family off, and buy one!!!!!

To hell with common sense. To heck with budget. To heck with saving up enough money to fix the amplifier so I can make large noises here at home- We must keep armed, heavily armed, and fulfill our destinies.....er......

yeah

Where's the reply? I'd forgotten how sick and alone you can get waiting for the email return. Geeze. What monsters. How unfeeling. The brutality of Himalayan Imports managment. What's the matter with those people? Don't they know there are real human beings strung out along a line here?

Never mind. This is where Rusty would say; Time for my meds.

Ooooh! That chit is sweet!!! I'd prefer a wood handle as well, but still... alas, no funds. I really like that YCS karda as well.

Got the Balance!!

This makes up for the year I tried to get a M43 and could not. That's right- over one year I tried. All you newbies...sniff, whine....guys like Nasty show up and get every model he gazes upon....some kind of Karmic justice going on I don't comprehend.... But I got the Balance, baby, and a field report will be coming in!!!!!

I got an 18" 28 oz. horn Balance a couple of months ago on a DOTD, and it handles wonderfully. I was sure this would be a winner when I first mentioned it privately, and am very glad HI decided to make it and hope we see more of them.

Here is the one: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=403892&highlight=balance It was the second one made. Sogguy has the first in what looks like walnut. Today's is #3.

Yangdu shows it as 27 oz., but my scale says 28. Has some nice white feathering in the horn.

Norm

P.S. See you got it Munk, congrats! That will make a nice mate to your 18" antler BDC.

Darn you, Norm; how do you remember all this?!!! You recall my 18" BDC?

That's it. I'm writing Yangdu today. You should be the official Historian of HI site. No more ad hoc.

I feel about those with intact short term memories about like those who pass me without effort on the Freeway....I'm glad to see anyone using enough pedal.

I am looking forward to chopping with the Balance. 29 oz may be a tad steeper than I wanted to go, but that's my karma.

Well, I can't take credit for this one Munk, because of the thorough review you did on it with some nice pics some time back. Made me definitely want one, which is what all good reviews should do.

I chopped thru a 4X4 with my Balance, which is about all the lumber I had laying around, and it did a great job and was super comfortable. I really like the blade on it very much; it kind of defies description, like a super-malla I guess. Kumar did an excellent job on the blade and the handle, and made the grip nice and long. A more in-depth test on some real logs would be welcome though.

Well, my YCS karda arrived today. This thing is quite the impressive beast! :D Another fine job by Kumar. The heft on this thing is perfect; it balances just ahead of the handle and feels just wonderful in-hand. The spine is 1/4" thick and arrow strait. Kumar gave this a very nice polish and a decent base edge, but it is by no means near shaving sharp. I have some 600 grit sandpaper and an old mousepad, so I should be able to take care of that.

The handle is a real work of art. The carving is very nicely detailed and a pleasure to look at. The wood is a treat as well. The nice subtleties to the color that you can see in the photo in the first post are just beautiful. I took some quick pics that I was planning to share, but they didn't turn out well enough to do it justice. I'll get out my tripod and better lighting in a day or so and try to get some better shots.

This was indeed a great snag. If you don't have one of these, it should definitely be on your list. Thanks again Yangdu. Oh, and thanks to the sharks for being a bit full on the 13th. ;)

I picked up the Chitlangi today. I'm glad it was still available.
Longest blade to join the collection (so far). :)

Thanks, Yangdu (and fellow sharks, for swimming past this one).
