Deals for 8/31 -- Pix, Sword, Villagers, Knives, Khukuri Pins and more good buys.

After mooning over it a couple of days and seeing that it is still languishing in the DOTD I decided to get the sword.

I really like the simplicity and looks of this sword and have thought about jumping on ones in the past. (Although I am a relative newbie, so the past is not that long ago.)

And, at 15oz, it fits into my collecting strategy of getting the lightest version of each of the HI DOTD offerings. ;)

After reading about the 25" Gelbu Special, it looks like this sword would bend under a strong wind. :)

I'll just about bet Terry Sisco could rig up a most elegant baldric for that fine sword. Steal a waiter's jacket from a fancy restaurant, reshape an old felt hat into a tricorn, fashion a cloak from an old wool blanket, then go wait by the old coach road for something to come your way. Be courteous and merciful as you ply your banditry, chicks'll dig that. :D

Sounds like a plan!

Do I need to check the yellow pages for some henchmen, or do I need to build up my reputation first? Don't want second-rate henchmen.

Or would henchmen be too gauche for a courteous and merciful bandit? Perhaps some merry men would be more the ticket.

You get henchmen, then you get into that whole benefit, workman's comp businesss, THEN holidays, religious variances, and personality issues.

I'd stay away from expansion until business absolutely demands it.

Good fortune. Nice sword.

This was really rough to pass up... I was torn between the fun of having a really light Grey Mouser of blade and wanting to put that money toward something short and choppy. I'm glad to see it went to a good home.

Could anyone clarify the name of this sword?

It is sometimes called "Nepolian", after Nepal? and "Napoleon" after Napoleon?

The first instance by Uncle Bill seems to be "Napoleon".

But Yangdu calls it "Nepolian" in many places.

Uncle Bill did not seem to know where Bura came up with this name.

Get used to transliteration ambiguity around here. I don't think Napoleon ever saw a sword like this ;) Or that Bura knows who Napoleon was  Just enjoy the piece.

Oh, I'll enjoy it, it's just that when I see "Nepolian" I want to say it "Nep-o-LEE-an", which has different stress than "Nap-O-lee-un".

Do you have any family members you could sell into indentured servitude??? ;)

There is the one that cost me about $100,000.00 a few years ago...
But no one would want her...
My mother died and she started lawsuits to get all my inheritance, and after all that was done, I was out over $100,000.00 in legal fees and lost taxes, and lost profit, etc... It was just a never ending string of fees and new lawsuits, and more fees, ad-absurdium...
I always thought, that after a Judge threw out a case, and the appeal, that that was the end of it..., but NO, all you have to do is re-word the case and re-file it, over and over and over again, until the person you are suing can not afford to fight it anymore!!!
I finally had to counter-sue to get them to agree to stop suing me!!!

I don't sound bitter, do I???:grumpy:

Hmmmm, Napoleon, Nepolian, all sort of reminds me of an old (and admittedly bad) joke. What do you get if there's an explosion in a French kitchen? Linoleum blown-apart. :foot: :o
