OK, just finished watching the classic film "Death Hunt" for the first time in many years, and I'd have to say it was very enjoyable.

I have a question I hope one of you survival-minded gentleman might be able to answer for me. What kind of carbine was Lee Marvin using in this movie? Looks like some sort of cut-down military rifle, but I don't recognize it.

Thanks in advance, guys!

I watched that movie again not too long ago. I like how the young guy's nerves get to him and he empties the levergun at the cabin without firing a shot. He kept chambering rounds but forgot to pull the trigger. After reading how they've found long guns from the Revolutionary and Civil war with multiple rounds still in the barrel, I could see how this could happen.

I did a search on TheHighRoad.org and found, Lee Marvin carried a Springfield .30-40 KRAG that was shortened/sporterized.

Thank you! I wondered if it might be a Krag, but the only one I have ever handled was a long rifle. Appreciate it!

Lee Marvin was carrying a Krag- Jorgensen rifle in .30-40 Krag. It was the rifle carried by U.S. troops in the Spanish-American war of 1898. It was a decent rifle, but couldn't compete with the Mauser as far as quick reloads of the internal magazine. It was replaced by the 1903 Springfield in .30-06. I hope this helps.

An added piece of trivia, the Norwegians fielded the Krag in a 6.5mm chambering prior to WW2. The Germans even rebarreled some captured Norwegian Krags in 8x57mm. The Krag is a nice rifle, they usually have exceptionally smooth actions and are quite accurate.
