Just recently I have lost a friend, and it was also a loss to the knife community. His name was Robert Hawley, and he was thirty years of age. He left behind a beautiful wife named Wendy, and a unborn child. Rob was much too young to be taken, and it seems so unfair; But he was a good Christian, and believed very much in God, so in that respect he is in a better place. I also know that he is up there somewhere buying and selling knives, like he loved to do. I put this post up not knowing what kind of responce I would get, but I think it is fitting, because Rob was one of us; He was also a credit to the knife community, because of his honesty, and integrity.

He will be greatly missed... Rest in peace Rob.

I mourn with you brother. I am saddened to hear of our loss.

I also convey my sympathies. Leaving a young family behind is a tragedy. I can only hope that all of us plan for such contingencies far better than we concern ourselves with the best way to sharpen a knife. Preparation obviously includes many things -- the obvious financial ones like wills and insurance -- but more importantly things like teaching our children, making our own lives in harmony with God.

There is one thing I want to know though....

I just got to wonder what kind of really cool blades there might be up there....

My deepest sympathies to his family. While maybe not appropriate for this forum, it definitely should serve as a reminder to us all how precious life is. Being both older than your friend as well as having four little ones of my own to care for, tragedies like this show me just how fortunate I am. While I dearly love my knives, they are far removed on the priority list from my family and our health. We should all appreciate what we do have, and spend less time worrying about what we do not.

Bob that is VERY young to go....but we can all head out at anytime, makes you think a little about how we spend our time!

My sympathy goes out to his family..

My condolences to you and his family.
