Death of a King, Return of the Queen, Arrival of the Prince.

Beautiful spot and you are obviously enjoying yourself. Maybe it is just me but I see no attraction to using a knife, regardless of size, to do a job that can be done easier and quicker with an axe, hatchet or sledge and wedge.

Thanks for the wonderful fireside story and photos. Made me feel like I was right there!

How about safety and weight? Those are all heavy tools and the lightest, a hatchet, I have never found very good for processing wood. Don't know how many times I have seen a guy trying to unstick his hatchet.

Axes I have seen bite deep into feet and legs and mauls smash bones.

I really prefer my Knife to anything.

Love the story and pics.

They gonna get back to you if a defect caused the tear in the 13? That is not the first time I've seen a chunk similar to that out of the 1311.

Looks like a lateral load + wiggling the tool in that crotch wood mighta been too intense for the King....ok now, stop snickering :o

Munchie box....hmmmmm...... Lots of Lebanese and pizza joints around here..... Could combine the 2. Start a new trend.... You guys are on to something here.

I should say the first camp (the first 3 pictures), has now gone. It was built on common ground and was only a 400m or so from a trail head. 4 of us built the camp over 6 months, we trialled lots of techniques, tools, ideas and stuff we'd seen on youtube. I spent a night there in Winter with no sleeping bag, blanket etc. Just a long fire to sleep next to, required a fair amount of firewood but was fun to try. Anyway, the schools finished for summer a couple of months ago and the very next evening 20 teenagers (13-16) turned up with some alcohol and decided to burn the place down. It took them a few nights but they managed to tear down all of the 5 shelters then burn them along with all the pre cut fire wood, all the dressed logs we had set aside for projects and any seats, benches etc. Nothing we could do about it. They have as much right to be there as we do and we can't man the site around the clock to stop them doing what they want.

My group and I have moved to a new wood and have started again. The picture below is about a week's work, we're taking out time with this site and it's more remote so we should be able to build something that lasts. More seats are needed, a few beds will be built and the firewall needs trimmed up (my OCD kicking in).

Awesome pics, great story and awesome customer service! Shame they didn't let you keep the broken one. I would have broken off the blade from the chip to the tip and the reground a new point on the remaining functional blade. You would still have a 711!!

That was my hope also, sadly not an option. Saves anyone 'accidentally' breaking their knife, returning it and also getting a free shorter blade to boot.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your first camp mate ... some kids these days make you :barf: Rare to find them out in the wilds though with such a crap attitude ...

Good luck with the new venture ( and the new knife ! )
