Won't travel until very late Summer.

That is good. Always best to hit Yellowstone after the amateurs have gone back to school. Much less crowded and you get to enjoy the fall colors. Obviously don't forget some field glasses or spotting scopes, you might get to enjoy some elk bugling or evening some rutting.

Plus it won't be hotter than the surface of the sun at the Grand Canyon.

If you are brave enough, try to ride the mules down the trail to the bottom of the canyon and then stay at the hotel down there. Great way to experience it.
