I'm starting to make a few knives using the flat grind method on both a 1x30 HF and the 2x72 Grizzly grinders. I'm starting out with some lower cost steels like possibly 1095, A2, O1 and maybe try some 440C. I'm looking at buying the raw, flat steel blanks and on the 440C they offer an option to decarb. I thought carburization came during heat treating? Why would i need to decarb or do i need to decarb my 440C raw, not heat treated steel? Won't this be ground off in the grinding process anyway? Total newbie here so, please, bear with me.
