Hi there ya'll, just came into a little spending money, and looking for a knife I can actually carry in public, since most of the knives I've collected so far aren't very people friendly. I live in Kentucky by the way, so it's legal to carry an "ordinary" pocket knife here, if you all have any decent ideas.

Thanks in advance.

You have many good options. Say more about what you want, such as blade length, opening method, handle materials, locking blade or slipjoint, type of lock if you want one, blade shape. That will narrow it down so that those who actually read your preferences can tailor their suggestions to what you prefer.

Maybe take a look at the Cold Steel American Lawman. For a few bucks over $50 you get a whole lot of knife.

Sorry about that Bill, something I'd like is a locking knife with one handed opening. Other than that, I'm open to anything.

I just got a spyderco Chicago, its very people friendly.

spyderco cat, and dragonfly are also a couple of under 2.5 inch folders.

Exactly. In the meantime, I'll say douk-douk.

What are you looking for specifically? Slim and light? Heavier and bulkier? Somewhere in between?

kershaw skyline, spyderco tenacious(or little brother persistence) crkt m16 ,kershaw volt 2 byrd robin, byrd meadowlark and much more.(most of them about 30 $ or under) as billy sad u have to give more info about your taste.what is your criteria about non peoplefriendly?

Ok, my recommendation is two hand opening, yet locking and totally non-aggressive in style. And it's really good, designed by a company with several decades of experience. The Eka 88 comes in many handle material variants, at least one of them should be in budget:

Zak, well my criteria is most knives I own at the time lol, started collecting three or four months ago and liked the flashy/scary knives such the Rajah 2, Spartan, and so on. I don't really think these would be at all people friendly.

he sad one hand opening but sure there are folders there in non aggressive format with one hand opening.

LoL spartan and rajah 2 ur ready for battle mate :D i love these types of knives too so i have nothing to edc'ing now :D and if you are ok with the steel on these cold steels the models that i wrote about is gonna fit you.but take a look at their picture first:D

I'd suggest taking a look at the production knife exchange forum here. You can find some very good knives for $50 or less.

Just about any Spyderco would fit the people friendly bill. I usually find that small and light makes a nice edc. The trick will just be finding the one you like best that fits in the $50 price range but it's entirely possible.

I highly recommend the Spyderco Delica 4 in blue--very un-intimidating IMHO and can be found for around $50

I've been looking at a few cold steel folders, and only problem is the black-coated blades, I talked to a local police officer and he said some cops will consider black coated blade a 'tactical' knife, and if it's clipped to you pocket and not inside of it, can be taken as illegal.

Spyderco Tenacious
Ontario Rat 1 Folder
Kershaw Skyline
SAK Alox Cadet

if you dont mind take of the black coating and polish the blade of a brand new knife you can do that.and american lawman is the most sheep friendly of their tactical series imo.or voyagers they are pretty good too 3'' clip point is a good edc.

SOG Aegis is right in that ballpark, nice light knife for EDC.
