Decent EDC for 50$ or less?

yeah im thinking to offer s.o.g s too but if their police consider black blade as a tactical knife assisted opening can be a problem too.

I've never heard of the black = tactical thing before...

Sometimes perception is very important when carrying a blade in public. For example, up here in Canada there aren't any size restrictions but it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon. Thus, if you are ever questioned for other reasons a Police officer will make his own judgement as to whether a knife you have on you is intended as a weapon or not. It's much easier to believe that an orange handled Spyderco Assist or Delica is meant as a utility tool than maybe a huge Rajah or Spartan folder.

I think that if you want a good blade that is very non-threatening and any cop would believe that it isn't being carried as a weapon then you would be well served by any of the Spyderco Delica, Endura line or even the Salt, Assist or Rescue models. Picking a non-black handle color seems to add to the non-threatening impression too for some reason. If you can't find one of those for your $50 price point, then the Tenacious or Persistence are much cheaper but they do use a bit of a lesser Chinese made steel. However, I believe that Chinese steel is the quality equivalent of AUS 8 which Cold Steel uses in many of their knives anyway so you probably wouldn't mind it.

for 50 bucks the knife I REALLY like is the Catchdog, that Meyerco is putting out, sick sick sick value knife.

I like my Ontario 1 folder. Great knife for the money and $20.00 will be left in your pocket.

The SOG Flash 1 is my favorite small EDC knife. Very lightweight, small footprint, and very deep carrying bayonet clip, so it carries virtually unnoticeable to you and others. It's small and non-intimidating, as to not make those around you nervous. Easy one-handed operation, so you can draw the knife, open it, do your cutting, close it, and return it to your pocket pretty seamlessly. Decent steel (AUS 8), GRN handles, and made in the USA.

A number of SAKs are also available for under $50, are public-friendly, and provide a lot of utility. The Super Tinker is probably my favorite of the SAKs. It's got a good basic set of tools (at least for what I use) and doesn't get too crazy, like some of the bigger SAKs (like the Wenger Giant).

Knives for EDC which cost $50 or less of which I think well. In no particular order.
Ontario Rat 1
Any of the Byrd knives.
Benchmade H & K Monochrome
Benchmade H&K Mini-Pika
Buck Vantage Avid
Kershaw Salvo

There are many others, but those spring to mind.

The Ka-Bar Dozier knives are another option. They're a pretty clean/simple and non-intimidating design. Comparable size to the Mini Lawman, same steel, and about half the price.

Getting something with a bright colored handle is great to remove intimidation factor (or wooden handles). You can do an Eka folder (they have a few under $50) or the classic Buck 110. If it doesn't come with thumb studs, you can get clamp on ones for very cheap, just search for "Buck 110 thumb studs".

I agree with Flarp. The Ka-bar Dozier folding hunter is a dandy edc knife. It is super light weight, offers a 3" blade with a very functional shape, can be had with either thumb hole or stud, has Aus8 steel which is plenty good for normal edc chores, and it can be had for $20. And it is very non-threatening. I bought one with pink scales for my wife. She loves it.

Does the Dozier have a pocket clip? I have seen things saying they do, but also that they don't, so I have no clue.
