The photographer emailed me the photos from the forging article the paper did on me. Lots of good hot steel pics, but you all know what that looks like. One was a good shot of me. I normally don't photograph well. This is the best photo I have seen of me in a long time. Certainly the best forge shot.
Anyway, you can now see what I look like. Some guys here have thought I was older, some younger.

Always curious who was behind all that knowledge.:D Nice pictures.

With all your knowledge I have to admit i pictured you as a grizzed old man hunched over a jewelers grinding wheel with 6 eyeloups on.:D
Great Pic and good to able to put a face to a name
Stan

I always wanted to have a sticky thread like that. Put a face with your name thread would be fantastic. I always surprise when I see a face of a BF member, always my imagination fails, as Stan said. I some times imagine most newbies as teenagers, experienced knife makers and long time BF members like old men. I guess most of us do that...

Oh, that was YOU I talked to at Ashokan!?!?!? :D

That's a great pic of you,Stacey. It was a pleasure to meet you in person. I wish we had more time to sit & chat. A weekend just is'nt enough time for all that goes on there. Already looking forward to next year!!!

Watch out guys, that Stacey's a tricky one. That's a picture of him about 20 years ago. He'll try and pull anything on us if he thinks he can get away with it.

In the next photo you do, you need to be in the buff while wearing that apron and hammering red hot steel. JT needs it for his next calendar.

Thanks for posting that Stacey!

Normally, photos make me look hunched and fat. That is probably because I'm working on something in most photos - usually bent over and have my head down.

While not as pronounced as years ago, the photo shows that my right arm (hammer arm) is still larger than my left.

No extra pounds, still 180.
The forging apron does give an unflattering barrel chested look. That is my water buffalo hide apron. I patterned it after one Bill Moran made. It is real comfortable and has adjustable snaps for the neck strap and waist strap.

The photo was taken a month ago. 20 years ago I was 200 pounds.

Whats with the chain and lock around the anvil? It's not like someone is going to walk away with it.

That is an eye bolt holding the chain down. The 125# anvil is chained down to a 400# flat anvil. The assembly works very well. For demos, I unbolt the chains and just use the 125# on a portable wood block base. The big red thing is a double welding magnet. It quiets the anvil greatly.

Stacy,
Congrats on the article....
Is that a Hofi hammer in the second pic..?

Great Scot you look a wee bit a I mean a way lot better than I imagined! Just kiddin....Thanks for all you do here! Your input is always highly valued as far as I'm concerned...wish I had half your experiance...I'm the old narly grizzled lookin one!

You have a good eye, Russ.
Yes, it is a Hofi. I love it. The yellow tape stripes are to find it in the forge area at a hammer-in. While there are not usually two Hofi's, having a color code helps keep everyones tool identifiable. I used to dip the handle ends in red paint, but too many other guys did the same thing, so I went to two yellow bands.
