decent wharncliffe for around $20?

Springs are easy to remove. Turned one of my LEEKs into an non-AO without a problem.
Another thumbs up for the Kershaw NEEDS WORK. A great VALUE Wharny.

How do you keep the blade closed with the torsion bar removed? Do you torque down the pivot screw or use the lock? Just curious as I used to have a Leek and didn't notice any detent on it...

Ya know, I don't remember; I just remember that mine stayed closed. Perhaps I did have the pivot screw tight, though I thought there was a detent or a bias to stay closed.
There is a slide lock on the heel of the handle that can be use, but I rarely used mine.

CRKT has a nice little wharnie neck knife. Folts Minimalist Neck Knife. it is 30 bucks, but it is a great little jobby

I've heard lots of positive reviews on it,

Get an auto-lock OLFA. You get the best blade geometry out there and you can abuse the blade freely since they are replaced so easily.
