So... what do you guys think?

I figured I have been spending a ton of money buying a ton of knives of the benchmade, spyderco, and kershaw kind and have always ignored the sebenzas because of the super high price. I thought it was crazy to spend that kind of money on 1 single knife. Then I realized that I have over a dozen different knives that are all ok, but none really impressed a great deal. Until I got a Buck Mayo TNT 172. This knife really did impress me, more so then any spyderco or benchmade I have ever had. I love the lock up, the smoothness of the folding action, and the blade with the rounded spine. This made me start thinking of a Sebenza. I figured if the TNT really impressed me that much, a sebenza would do at least the same.

I figured that rather then keep running around and buying a ton more knives that I would just sell all my other productions knives and get the Sebenza 21 with some wood inserts and golden thumbstud. I think that it is a beauty, and the blade length is perfect for me. I will keep the Buck Mayo TNT for my smaller knife. So I figure I will have a nice large folder and nice small folder, and let that be it and quick taking up all my time trying to find the perfect folder. I have been spending too much money on the knives lately. I will actually come out ahead with a bunch of cash on top of a Nice sebenza, so to me that sounds good. Have any of you guys ever done something like this, lol...

Ha... I actually thought about this too. But to tell the truth the other reason is so I won't spend my time searching through these forums finding another knife with the newest super steel...

The actual whole reason I got back into knives is that I misplaced my very first knife, a wally world spyderco native, after that I went hogshat wild after I started reading about knives and amassed a ton of them (well for me, I see some of you guys that have a collection worth more then my mortgage). I just kind of want to step away from knives and be happy with what I have and quit looking. I have my fixed blades set and am happy with that, but I never seemed to get the perfect folder. The Buck TNT pretty much ended it with the shorter folder, I know I don't want another one (Small sebby is too small) and then I will get the large sebby for my large folder and be done....

smart move but i agree with cultivateitnow , if your a knife head youll soon be looking for a diff version of the same high quality knife at some point, especially when you see how much crks live up to theyre hype. thats what happened to me at least, but you will not be dissappointed owning a few high quality blades instead of alot of mediocre ones , not to take anything away from spydies and bms but crks and striders are just a step above.

I thought I'd stop buying guns when I found that Glocks are all I'd ever want/need in a carry/defensive firearm. Turns out I just started buying surplus and fun guns instead. Good luck with your self control :)

what??!
and miss out on all the fun of actually buying and testing out all other newly recommended production numbers to come?
an example would be to refer to the great conquering emperors of past, would it have been entirely possible that marriage to a single queen suffice?
or perhaps the very thought of having a knife hareem is just all too sinful to consider?

Ya, with the guns I have glocks and springfields, and I am pretty much done there. Though the guns I carry around the most are my Ruger Speed six .357 (outdoors hiking gun) and my ruger lcp. I only use the glocks and springfield at the range, but it is fun. Though the glock is my home defense buck up gun to my 12 guage shotgun.

I figured I will be going in the right direction. I do tend to stop when I find the certain something I am looking for, because I tend to get burnt out on things, like this knife thing. I am getting burnt out and figured I will get the best, sell the rest.

If you stick within the $250-$1000 range, you'll be ok. I haven't broken the $1000 mark yet but am close.

Ya, I figured I will look at it this way. Out of all the toys I have, guns, knives, axes, mountain bikes, etc.... the knife is the one that will be on my 24/7. I have guns and what not worth much more and they sit there and look pretty and maybe get taken out once in a while to get shot and go hunting. A knife is on me all the time, and a sebenza still costs less then most quality handguns and rifles. And I can't play with a gun while sitting in traffic , but I can play with a sebenza, flicking it, cutting a piece of paper, scrutinizing the latest scratch and try to wipe it off, etc... lol. Then I can go home and cut my steak up with the knife... It will probably see the most use out of any tool I will have.

Sounds to me like you are getting smarter.
+1! I did exactly what you are planning on doing, and I haven't regretted it for a minute. You will love the Sebenza. But as time goes by, your eye will start to wander, and that XM-18 (or something else) will start to look irresistible. That's what happened to me anyway. But no problem. I just save my money, and add one quality folder when able, instead of buying three so-so knives with the same amount of money. I find that my knife hobby is MUCH more satisfying this way. Enjoy the journey!

Next, I suggest a Darrel Ralph HTM 4" Maxx. They will be coming soon, very soon. Or hold out for the HTM line D/A OTF auto.

On the surface the idea makes a lot of sense. However, you made no mention of a fixed blade or two. I'd say you're only half finished.:)

Good luck with that. If you can pull this off, you're a better man than most of us. :p The Sebenza is a great one to dedicate this effort too, that's for sure.

Have any of you guys ever done something like this, lol...

Nope, but I figure if our ancestors (grandfathers, uncles, etc.) could live out their lives with one or two knives, it can be done well enough.

Yep - Welcome to the disease! :) That is the cycle we have all done, or will do! HA - resistance is futile. I hate to tell you what comes next, but you can probably guess! One leads to another - Then more rationalization to another. Run while you can! :D You have been warned.

It worked for me! I switched to a Sebenza several years ago even though I could not afford one at the time and it was a great move. I have not bought another folder trying to find the perfect EDC since. I'm sure my Sebenza has paid for itself in the money I have saved by not buying other folders.

Yes. I ended up getting rid of the Sebenza, the one that works best for me (IMO) is the Spyderco Caly 3 in ZDP and carbon fiber.

The Sebenza lockup and all that is very good, but it's edge holding was underwhelming. I really expected more from an expensive folder. YMMV.

Good luck with your decision!
