Decided to sell all knives, get sebenza...

Whether you regret it or not is something you'll find out after holding the Sebenza for a week. I've drooled over the Sebenza myself in the past, but I figured all the good looks would be in vain. I'm probably the only "knife guy" in the state(or at least on the island) who would appreciate it in any way. As far as fit and finish goes, my taste isn't refined enough to appreciate it so long as the knife doesn't have blade play and opens and closes smoothly.

S30V is also getting a little bit...old.

My holy grail will likely be the Spyderco CF Para 2 in S90V:thumbup:. And for half the price of a Large Sebenza too:cool:!

Alright guys, got my sebenza today!! I must say....... THAT I LOVE THE KNIFE. It is the Ebony inlaid sebenza with gold inlays inside the ebony :D. The knife is everything it is made out to be. Fit and finish is great, the action is awesome. No, the blade does not come flying out of the handle, but it is smooth as silk when it does.. And the lock up, awe inspiring. It locks up TIGHT, and there is absolutely no blade play what so ever, none, zilch. Not to mention the knife looks top notch and is classy.

Another surprising thing about the large sebenza is how well it fits the hands. I have numerious frame lock knives, and they all fit the hand good, but this one is just much better. It fits the hand great, provides a good grip in all manners of holding the knife. I will post pics of the knife when I get home. I think the rest of my folders are going on the trading forum.. and, since I recently purchased a busse knife with infi steel, I believe some of my fixed blades will be leaving also...

Grats on the seb, I'm glad your happy with her. I kind of did the same thing. I got my lg 21 last year and have loved it. I noticed that I stopes carrying my other knives and have now sold most of them off. I still have about 4 folders but I like a little backup :)

Wow! Congrats on the good score! :)

Now if you want a folder that really fits your hand in every grip and has perfect fit & finish, head over to the Hinderer forum and score an XM-18 3.5" :D

That one will have you selling some more knives. Why have a tupperware box full when you can have 5 or 6 - near perfect knives? ;)

this post is strange for me too find now, i started a thread about "weird trades you have done for or with knives" a few days back. i was covertly seeking ways or hints on how to trade or sale some stuff to get a Lg sebenza. then i find this post today. wow, there is certainly a consensus of opinions on this subject, but now im more confused than before...lol.

great thread, and congrats on getting Your sebenza.

No need to be "covert" here, dullb. Just post what you have FSOT, sell, raise funds, buy a new or pre-loved Sebbie, and repeat as necessary.

well, i dont think they want us selling what i want to sell, on here. im off to houston tommorow to try to see/oogle/fondle some sebenza's tommorow.

Alright guys, here they are :D. Got a few others in there for size comparison... They are definitely worth the price, no denying that..

I guarantee that this is what will happen:

--- you'll sell everything off, taking a considerable loss along the way, and buy the Sebenza of your [wet] dreams. It will finally arrive and you'll spend happy hours fondling it, fantasizing about all the dragons you'll slay and damsels you'll rescue and how they will show their gratitude.

--- then one day, it will come time to put the Sebbie in your pocket and take it out of the house, and you'll suddenly realize that it is simply too nice to use as an EDC, and you'll think of all the time and money you've invested in it, and what happens if you lose it? OMG!

--- so you'll have to run out and buy something cheaper to EDC --- something that you had earlier and sold off. Then you'll realize that it, by itself, won't be enough and you'll have to buy something else, which, of course, you had and sold. And then another knife that you had and sold. Pretty soon, you'll have rebought everything that you sold, but at considerable more expense since prices have gone up in the meanwhile, and the Sabenza will be sitting in the drawer gathering dust, except when you take it out to play with --- as long as you stay inside to do so.

So: just keep everything you have now, and just suck it up and buy the Sabenza.

I have already sold most of my knives, and have made a considerable prophet even considering ebay and paypal fees because I have yet to buy one knife new. I probably funded one of my sebenzas with the prophet I made from selling my other knives. And I went out today fishing with my large sebenza, it got guts, slime, and scales all over the knife. Took it home and cleaned it out, gave it a power strop and it is back to like new. I do have some cheap kershaws, spydercos, and gerbers that I picked up for about 20 bucks a pop that I will keep to do some serious dirty work.... but I definitly don't feel bad about using the sebenza. I actually felt good to use it because the knife feels incredible in the hands.... Plus if it gets bad enough it will go back to Mr. Reeve's shop in Idaho to get a refub done. I don't buy my knives too collect, I get them to use them. That was the whole point about this post, I am not a collector so I decided to sell all the other knives just sitting around.

Ya, I figured I will look at it this way. Out of all the toys I have, guns, knives, axes, mountain bikes, etc.... the knife is the one that will be on my 24/7. I have guns and what not worth much more and they sit there and look pretty and maybe get taken out once in a while to get shot and go hunting. A knife is on me all the time, and a sebenza still costs less then most quality handguns and rifles. And I can't play with a gun while sitting in traffic , but I can play with a sebenza, flicking it, cutting a piece of paper, scrutinizing the latest scratch and try to wipe it off, etc... lol. Then I can go home and cut my steak up with the knife... It will probably see the most use out of any tool I will have.

I like this answer the most. Even though I have never owned a CR blade this would be a good excuse for me to buy it. Thank you sir.:thumbup:

Uhhh..... I went a little crazy... damn this forum!!! Here is a link to update you guys. Also, half of my collection is gone, and I am definitely selling the rest of them. All I have to say is Mr. Reeve's knives are the best folders I have tried yet.. end of story.

Link to my review...... :D

So, if I get this right... in less than one month, you sold your collection and bought 4 CRKs?

Any others in the mail?

:P

Nope.. none in the mail. But I must say.. the only new one I got brand new was the damascus. The rest I saved a significant amount by buying used.

I just did that. Sold a whole bunch of production blades and bought a Strider SMF. I absolutely love it. There is a real difference. I figured I'm set for a while now.No more Then just today I went into a sports store for something unrelated and "accidentally" somehow found a Syderco Military in my hands. So much for being set. I guess you have to ask yourself if you are "just" a user or a connoisseur. I found out the hard(expensive) way what I am.

Now that you have a taste for fine knives, you need a Hinderer!

The reason I've accumulated and sold so many knives over the years is simply because I've never been fully satisfied with any one of them. I've never bought a knife just cuz it looked cool. Every single time I thought it would be the one, but they all had a few shortcomings in the end (design flaws/poor quality/etc.). If you've truly found that one single knife which does it for you, then go for it. All of a sudden your hobby would cease to be expensive.
