Deciding what Sage to get..

Hi Ken,

Not at this time. The plan is to use G-10 but make it look like FRN.

Probably in a color.

Blackie's invention is quite nice and demonstrates much thought. The bolt is linear with the plane of the blade. The same principle is used on the ball locks, though the application is different.

Blackie's first locks were right hand only. Gerber later made them ambi. Our version will be ambi.

Unlike the Axis and Rolling locks, which are transverse to the plane of the blade, thus requiring liners for the locks to function. The Arc lock, while many say is like the Axis, is really a variation of the Rolling lock. The axis travels forward and backwards while the Rolling Lock and Arc locks rotate.

Both the Axis Lock and Rolling Lock are Benchmade patents. The Rollng lock was invented by Bob Taylor and Bob Brothers.

We did get permission fom Gary Fadden at Al Mar to use the Al Mar lock and Al Mar's name for the Sage 4 version.

You sure they are stopping at 3? I'm in for the set if that's the case!

I think there could possibly be more than 3 (as Sal mentions in his post above), there is still a back lock version, slip joint version, and a ball bearing lock version to name a few. I was just refering to keeping up with what is currently available.;)

As I remember, we had more than 20 locks available. We also received a group of lock drawings from a customer from Europe that I'd not seen before.

There are also locks that have been patented, but not produced. One example is the lock Leon Pitman invented about 10+ years ago. We got a patent, but couldn't get production going. Modern technology makes it possible.

There are locks like "button" locks that will be difficult to get history. Bernard Levine will have to be summoned on a number of them.

There are also locks we can't use because they are in current patent use, or we can't get permission from the person that created or owns the lock.

It's still a fun and challenging project.

The Sage design is, in my opinion, one of my better designs and will serve many uses. It's wide enough to house just about all locks. Long enough for most chores. Ergonomic enough for most hands. Crucible's CPM-S30V is a top drawer USA made steel.
