Decision: Kershaw Blur or Cold Steel Lawman. I need a folder for my hunting pack as a just in case. I am looking for bulletproof design, under 4" blade, very easy to sharpen, really prefer American made, under $65.00.
I like the look of both models and already have a Blur in S30V which I do not want to throw into the pack. All advice and opnions are appreciated. Convince me the Lawman is worth me stepping out on Kershaw for.

AL is made in Taiwan. It IS basically bulletproof.
Blur is much lighter, also very ergonomic, slight recurve (so perhaps less easy to sharpen). I really like the Blur. I also like the AL. Ease of sharpening and toughness would tip the balance in favour of the AL. The Blur is much less bulky to carry, not sure if that makes a difference. AO may be aother pro. Tri-Ads are relatively slow to open, especially compared to the Blur (which is aptly named ;).

My .02

Blur, because Kershaw is yet to be associated in any way with spandex pants. :D

I love my Kershaws, never had much love for CS other than a few select offerings.

Hmmm...tough call. I have used my SG2 Blur when camping and it performed great and I have never had a problem sharpening re-curves on the corner of a stone. That said, for sheer strength of construction, the AL, is a hard act to follow for a production knife. I guess that for compact and light carry, the Blur rules the day and for seriously hard use, the AL is king, IMO.

Two pretty different knives in my opinion.

Both are great though and everyone pretty much said what needs to be said... :)

Oh , well.... the AL will have a much more robust blade , so there's that.

I cant speak for the AL but I can for the Blur, the Blur is one of my favorite knives. I have 6 different models of it, it carries great, opens like lightning and has nice steel, if you are looking at getting a ce the scalloped serrations are great but I wouldn't recommend getting the tanto version bc of the thin tip and the type of serrations it has. The S30V version would be a good investment but the regular steel does well for me, and you can get a red handled one. And the Blur can be switched to tip up carry. Let us know which one you get

Tell me about the Kershaw Knockout. Is it in same category as the Lawman regarding strength. This will be in my pack so weight and carry comfort are not an issue. A never breaking blade or locking mechanism is. I am very hard on a knife and this will be used for farm use most if the time. I am trying to stay made in the USA is all other items are equal.

That Knockout looks great! I might have to get one for myself. If it's anything like my Cyclone, it'll probably take some very serious rough handling. I use my Cyclone everyday at work, often for some not-recommended tasks, and it's held up like a champ. I even cooked it by accident with an Oxy/Acetylene torch when it was forgotten under my workpiece (gotta love aluminum handles!). Didn't phase it a bit.

It looks like the Kershaw Knockout isn't available yet but it definitely does look like a great design. You can never really tell reliability based on the description and a couple photos. If you want reliability you are better off with a product that's been around the block and is a known quantity.

I would go with a JYDII or the AL ,both are large and as strong as you would ever need. If you are used to a liner lock it can take a bit too get used to a lockback(may not apply to you). I love my American lawman but I love me some kershaws. I like my other knives but I have been carrying my AL to work for months because it feel good and locks like a bank vault.

JYDII is another great suggestion. It's a big beefy knife, you can get it in adequate to decent to simply EXCELLENT steels (far better than AUS8A), it's great slicer and it's comfy. I still think the AL is tougher overall, but that's the only thing it holds over this Kershaw.
Kershaw also has a fantastic warranty and CS department, better than Cold Steel (who are no slouches themselves).

Kershaw just replaced one for me. I have a framelock Scallion my brother gave me as a gift. I thought I lost it and found it in the junk drawer near the washing machine. It had been through a wash and wife just threw it in the pile of items I forgot in my pockets. It would not open as it had sat for a year. I made the mistake of pulling it apart to clean it. After I found all the pieces that ejected themselves on my garage floor, I mailed it to Kershaw with no explanation. They either replaced it or put it back together and sharpened it. GREAT Customer Service and that is why I am leaning so heavy on them now. Next question is the JKYDII better than the Blur?

I prefer the Blur to the JYDII, feels better in my hand, looks better, slices better and comes in many flavors.

The JYDII is a cool knife and it has two things the Blur lacks, a flipper and an easily attainable composite blade. But I'd still prefer the Blur, the Blur is assisted opening, has the track inserts, comes in pe and ce and can be switched to tip up carry, the pocket clip can be switched with other clips from the leek or blur and the clip is of normal size and looks, um... not like the JYDII clip. And it has a lanyard hole... BLUR WINS It is a great knife.

based on what you wrote, get the american lawman.

have you considered a fixed blade?

Both!

Really.

Hard decision. My two favorite knives are the lawman and S60V Blur. I decided to keep the Lawman and sell the blur simply because I wanted to keep only one good knife. I really really really regret selling that blur though. I should have just put it away for later.

Lawman. Not a huge fan of the recurve that kershaw does on alot of their patterns. The ones I really like are more warcliff type. Easy to sharpen a straight edge, and if you are using a knife alot that's important. The needs work is one of the greatest little box knives in production.
