I'm thinking about one of these bad boys, maybe even the Waki or 1311. (old pic)

Whatcha think??? Should make splitting those rock-hard breast bones in half a piece of cake, saving a bunch of time when cleaning time comes around at the end of the day. Advice?

lol, j/k. ;) :p

Probably just take my awesome little satin Rodent 3.

:D :D :D :D :D

I've never been dove hunting. I will say that there's no such thing as too much knife. Take the 1311 and kdsh.

He's not talking about quartering a Totino's green olive and cheese pizza.

R3, #7 or #8 full, 3 pouches Capri Sun, 2 venison/beef sticks, a tube of 40 SPF, and either Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey or any Calvin and Hobbes to pass the time.

Good luck on the hunt, sir. :D

NMFSH all the way. Perfect bird breakerer downerer.

Can not disagree with Rob more, too little of a knife, I will go with the Big AK. It would like impressive to prep them with the big Katana. Those Birds can be a handful. Me I shoot them with a 28ga. At least I can blame the gauge for the misses.

SAR-3 or your SYKCO ELMAX 460, and your Waki.

If they come in low, fast, and close you nail 'em with the Waki! ;) ---- :D

Cultellus.

I like the way Resin thinks; Cultie would be great.
I will also suggest, one of the reasons that I am a fan of the pork shank, is that it functions as well other dedicated "bird and trout" knives for that purpose, and is also tough enough to handle almost anything else. Though of course it is not a camp wood processor.

I am taking my elmax Hack Warden and 460 just in case I need a little more knife but I doubt it. Good luck! I sure hope the birds are flying tomorrow!

SpydercoPhreak I wanted to add that you have a very impressive collection. I need to follow your example and buy two when I find a blade I really like

Ha! Go big or go home!

JK (well, kind of)... that satin 3 looks like a very, very practical blade.

I'd just take something to chop through brambles if a bird came down where I couldn't get to it easy. It's happened to me several times, so a bushwhacker comes in handy.
I never clean the birds in the field. I always just do it at home when I get there, and I don't use a knife at all. If you get to know where the meat is on the bird real well, you can pull the meat off with your finger and thumb. It takes a little practice, but once you have it down, it's far easier than slicing and hacking on em for that little ball of meat!

Me too! We've limited the past two years in the area we hunt, but this year has been unusual in many ways, so I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you sir! Certain models have spoken to me, so multiples were warranted. My collection pales in comparison to others' here though!

Just in case people haven't realized it yet, this thread was totally tongue-in-cheek. ;) I won't take a large blade, just the Rodent 3.

I also clean these little birds at home, and mostly just take the breasts unless it's a larger Eurasian dove. Don't typically even need a knife the way I breast them out either.
