GOing to buy 1 more blade for myself before the holidays...My past few purchases have been all moras..trying to decide if I should grab a another mora and maybe an opinel? or a Vic PE one handed trekker..I 've heard alot about the trekkers.. but I edc an leatherman wave and have 2 in storage...the leatherman has the same tools and more, don't know if I need the vic...Probably don't need another mora either though (I think that's be 12) I'd also be open to other moderately priced reccommendattions..

ragnars has alot of low priced scandis, and alot of them look alot better than a mora. it is really hard to go wrong with a scandi in any price range.

i saw a sale on a CS recon scout the other day, and even though it isnt really my taste, i was tempted. if you want the site, let me know.

Hmm.. Sounds like you're pretty set on moras. :D I'd go one of two ways. One, you could get some blocks of wood that Ragnar sells and some blade blanks and put your own together. Or two, get this guy (just because I want one too):

Opinel. They cut well and you can have fun customizing it over your vacation. Nicer than a Mora too, but still so cheap that if you louse it up you can bin it off without a second thought.

Sounds like you've already got the Mora's covered. I would go for a 12" Tramontina machete & sheath;) SMKW has the trams for $5.99 & the sheaths for $3.99

How about the opinel folding saw or folding fillet knife - just for different functionality?

I was thinking the same thing - try a "pretty" Scandi like a Helle or something; all of the functionality of a Mora plus some aesthetic pleasure. I'd like very much to try a Karesuando, but I'll probably wait until after the holidays.

I also think it would be fun to try to make one with blade blanks, but I have no sander or grinder . . . yet.

For shaping a scandi-knifehandle all you need is a coarse file and some sandpaper. just takes a little more time than with a sander.
