This is a pretty nice package. We refer to this style as a riflemans hawk. Fast, sleek and light. The hammer poll hawk is hand forged from a single bar of high carbon steel. Fileworked on the spine and belly. The poll is hand filed down to shape. The head is 7 5/8" long with a cutting edge 2 3/8" wide. Etched to a nice patina. The haft is curly maple stained with traditional aqua fortis and finished with boiled linseed oil. Leather wrapped in three places and sewn with sinew nice and tight. Decorated with brass tacks.
The sheath took a good while to make itself. Its a baldric type sheath as seen in the book (Tools, traps and weapons of the mountain man). Its all hand sewn with leather fringe. The shoulder strap loops are hand forged as well.
