Deep carry clip installation question

I bought a deep carry clip from Casey and he informed me the provided screws will most likely not be long enough for the FRN scales. I decided to give the provided screws a shot and as he told me they did not reach. I tried the factory screws and they will not clear the clip and go into the hole as they are to long. I am just wondering how you guys with Caseys clip installed them on your FRN knives?

Please do not take this as anything bad towards Casey or his clips. He was a pleasure to deal with and the clips looks top notch. He is a great guy.

I have 7 of Casey's clips. 1 on a FRN delica. I had to cuss at it a bit but I was able to get the factory screws to work.

I recently got one of Casey's clips for my FRN Delica as well. I used the factory screws and found the easy way to do it is to put the screws into the clip holes first, before attaching it to the handle.

What I am saying is the screws will not go into the holes as the screws are to long to clear the clips. They are angled and will not go in.

I tried and forced them a bit more than I would of liked, but still could not get it in. I am afraid I will ruin the threads on my factory screws if I try and force it any more.

Hmmm ... did you ask Casey? I did. ;)

I had the same trouble with my Delica with FRN. The included screws were too short, only a thread or two would catch. But the factory screws were a bit too long.

Casey says he purposely over-bends the clips slightly to ensure a tight grab and this leaves little room to get the screws through. He suggested trying to 'screw' the screws through the clip's holes instead of just trying to get them to drop in. I tried but on one side the fit was a bit too tight for me and I chickened out fearing I'd strip the original screws on the titanium.

So I got a small pair of channel lock pliers and pried ever so lightly until the original screws almost dropped through and only needed a little 'screwing' to go all the way through.

BTW, Casey offered to send me a new clip if I couldn't 'fix it' myself. Of course, that could be that he just likes me better. ;)

Thank you for the reply. I did send him a email earlier and assume he will respond tonight. I just wanted to start a thread seeing what you guys thought.

I figure I might have to bend it out to get them to fit and then bend it back once the screws are in. I really only want to do this as a last resort, but it is looking like I might have to.

I had the same issue on a couple of mine. Remedied by drilling the clip holes one size larger. Problem solved.

Hey Capt - I did send you an email as well. Thanks guys for the advice here.

Yeah, that is a problem for sure... if the 'U' bend isn't tight enough, the tension is weak. If it's too tight, the screws are tough to get in. I think El Toro had the best idea, to try to 'screw' the screws in before putting it on the knife. Those threads are pretty tough - I don't think that will mess them up. Travis' idea is good too - grab the 'mouse ear' part of the clip with pliers, and open it up slightly so the screws can fall through, then let it spring back.

Sorry for the pain there... I try to make sure that the OEM screws will work, but sometimes I get it a little too tight. Like Travis said, let me know if you can't get it to go, and I'll shoot you out another clip with the screws already installed.

Casey

Factory screws in my Delica right now with Casey's clip. Screw the screws into the holes. They're not going to drop in. Do all three before attaching the clip to the knife. No clip bending required.

I have no problem. Once I realized the clip hole is offset with a couple of screws, I put the one screw that is closest to without interference, screwed in without tighten, then, push Casey's clip at the opening tip with my thumb, off set enough for the next screw to drop in, screwed in without tighten. Then repeat the same on the third. After all in, tighten all three progressively.

But one thing is not to use the supplied Allen wrench. OEM screws are Torx. There is a difference in "FIT".

Hope that is clear as mud. :)

Dang, Victor, that is a great suggestion! I wish I woulda thought of it!

Casey

You made a very nice priced product and supplied with more than adequate screws + Allen wrench. Its ok to use the Allen wrench if clip screws just tighten snug, but more tight then snug would cammed out the Torx female, so I just used Wiha Torx bit, after thumbing the clip over slightly to make the wrenching more perpendicular. :)

Thanks again.

I went through this myself on a Para 2 with Casey's clip (which is an awesome combination!). One of the supplied screws bottomed out somehow before it was tight against the clip. I just went back to the original screws and mounted the clip similarly to the way victorf did. It tightened up perfectly and the clip has not budged so far--about 2 months of constant carry. It's a really great clip: beautiful, secure, and somehow it has not picked up any significant scratches or snagged on anything. Could just be luck, but I think it's the way it's designed...

His clips are the best upgrade I've purchased for any knife, period. They work extremely well while looking awesome at a great price. He guarantees his work and is an outstanding guy. What more could anyone ask for?

Well I guess I can ask for the obvious?
Slightly longer screws?

I just got clips Today and same story here, not enough screw to reach brass insert in Delica.
I thought they had bitten at first but it was just the angle they screwed in holding against the FRN I think.

So if I flatten the clip a little so it sits parallel to the scales they might go in but why not just have a few longer screws in there to make this easy?

I love the clips but just don't understand about the screws?
