I’ve wanted to make one of these for a while now. This Scagel-inspired knife has been tinkered with for the past couple of weeks. It’s such a neat knife that I wanted to make sure I honored the material the best I could. Two of the materials I’m happy to say are directly from Ohio, the deer crown and buckskin. The deer crown was found during one of my hunting trips, and the buckskin I made a few years back when I was trying my hand at leather making. The buckskin was created fairly close to how the Native Americans and early settlers would have done it, with the exception of egg yolks and oils were substituted for the brain tanning. Pretty gross, but it creates some of the softest leather!

Without further ado, I present to you the deer crow hunter.
Enjoy.

Very nice, I love Scagel style knives.
Thanks, Scott.
If I’m not mistaken, it was one of your knives that got me looking into the Scagel design. I did a little research and found that Mr. Scagel had a pretty interesting life, be it his knife making shop or his personal life.
I may dabble around with more of these in the future.
