Deer gutting knife

A mora companion makes a good hunting knife on the cheap. As would an opinel no.8 or 9.

Can I ask what method you use to field dress a deer? Do you cut around the anus or through the pelvic bone?
 
A Mora companion would be an option to look at. For the money you can't beat em. If you get "into" knives then you can always get something higher end.
 
I use the Spyderco Moran. It is the right size (not too big), it is light weight so easy to carry around, it has a nice sheath, it has good steel in the blade (VG-10), it has a fair price (but more than $40) and has the right design for dressing game. Actually for field dressing just about any knife will work but you want to get a portable bone saw for quartering, etc. Here are a couple of videos that you might enjoy.

R Rosscom you’re brand new here so I’ll just politely let you know that bringing back a dead thread from years ago is generally frowned upon, with few exceptions.
