DEER PROCESSING--KNIFE TEST

ONE OF MY PATIENTS SHOT A DEER THIS WEEKEND-AND WHEN HE TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO PROCESS IT UP FOR STEW-I ASKED HIM IF HE WANTED TO TEST A FEW DIFFERENT KNIVES.

ORDER IN WHICH DANNY LIKED THEM---RANKED FROM THE TOP DOWN
Picture029.jpg

I liked the bottom 3 the best

The Nick Allen Knife held it's edge the longest

The Swamp Rat was the most comfortable(to me)

it's a knives of alaska bush knife with a g-10 handle from justin of ranger knives

Is it D2? How did it do?

Amazing, someone testing knives in the way they are meant to be used.
Thanks for posting Doc.;)

Yes Sir D-2

I gave to danny about 2 weeks ago and he loves it

After we had it on the truck bed we took turns cutting the meat into smaller stew size pieces.

You find out real fast what works for you-and what does not ---

Danny has much more hunting experience than I do-but I'm better with a knife(cutting wise)

We both liked the Swamp Rat very much

He did not like the kraton on the Cold Steel Master Hunter(I love that knife)

Again--the only sure fire way to find out is to test--yourself.

I was glad Danny gave me the chance to test these knives..

The second one down from the top was Danny's personal knife-he liked it better than all the others but the Bark River.(that was his favorite)

I gave it to him.

More photos will follow as Danny is the man with 80 acres of land he allows me to chop on---so stay tuned

We aren't supposed to chop through concrete blocks using a sledgehammer baton? Nice Review Doc! I hope you get a cut of that yummy meat. Any chance you can list the knives? I don't recognize a couple of them.

TOP ONE TO BOTTOM

BARK RIVER FORAGER(I THINK)--HAD SCOTT TANGUAY PUT GROOVES INTO THE HANDLE

NICK ALLEN HUNTER(LOVE THIS PUPPY)

SWAMP RAT HOWLING RAT(1ST GEN)

COLD STEEL MASTER HUNTER

KNIVES OF ALASKA BUSH HUNTER(HAD JUSTIN OF "RANGER KNIVES" REMOVE KRATON HANDLE AND INSTALL G-10 GRIPS)

DANNY'S HANDMADE KNIFE(NOT SURE WHO MADE IT)

Great test. Funny how the two of you came to opposite likes on a few of them knives. I guess that point should keep being reaffirmed over and over especially when you go on recommending a knife to someone else. What serves you might not serve somebody else.

His hands are much bigger than mine--but my fingers are longer.

And you are 110% correct---what works for me(or you) might not serve the next man at all.

Fun and worthwhile testing to find out!!!!

Great thread Doc well done!

That dog was relishing the idea of the deer getting its jammys off...

Good job William. You guys are lucky..judging by your freinds size compared to the deer...that one is like "godzilla sized" compared to the ones we see here. Enjoy!!

Congrats to your Friend on the little Doe:thumbup: Looks like you guys had a nice selection of blades to play with ! Grill up some of those backstraps for me :D

awesome pictures! Love that dog, one minute its chewing on the meat, next its gone! Also how about a picture of the food!
