Although I still love my ArchAngle 2, my affections are now divided between that knife and the new one that I just received from Bladerigger, the Defcon 3. The Defcon 3 is slightly smaller than the ArchAngle with just a 3” blade. This makes it not only comfortable to carry on a daily basis but also legal where I live.

I decided a long time ago that at my age I was just going to be too slow getting a folder into action. Too many steps involved. With a small fixed blade you draw and it’s there. End of discussion. The Rigger Coat on both knives is phenomenal. The grip it provides is very comfortable and secure. My Defcon 3 came with a two tone, black and cobalt blue Rigger Coat that is simply beautiful. The shape of the blade fits my hand like a glove and the built in guard precludes my hand slipping down over the blade. You can see a picture of the Defcon 3 at the Bladerigger web site.

James did make two modifications to the Defcon 3 for me. First , he ground down the false edge so that it would not be a double edge blade. Illegal where I live in any size. Next, he attached a small piece of strong fabric with an eye hole to the tip of the sheath. With a strong safety pin that he provided, I can attach the sheath and knife to the inside of my front pants pocket. The draw comes out fast in a forward grip and no I haven’t sliced any of my pants yet! I almost always wear jeans with large cargo pockets and the knife is invisible, within the legal size limits, comfortable to carry, and always with me. What more could I ask for?

I know some people question the cost of some of Bladeriggers products. All I can say is that personally, I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I have never been disappointed in anything I have purchased from Bladerigger. The quality and workmanship has always been outstanding.

Sharp, quick to draw, and comfortable for all day carry, the Defcon 3 and V-Gar belt have become my constant companions. The ArchAngle 2 is there for special occasions.

I am not a martial arts expert but I have studied JKD, stick and knife fighting for a number of years. Having said that, my major goal in a confrontation would be to extricate myself from the situation and get away as fast as I could. I view my weapons as tools to that end, in an escalating staircase of options. From my steel toed boots and hands, to my Koppo stick and V-Gar, on up to my Defcon 3. Because of that the size, shape, and ergonomics of my Defcon 3 accomplish the mission I have in mind for it. It is not meant , in my opinion, to be used as a dueling weapon in a knife vs. knife encounter. It is too small for that with only a 3” blade. But its just that size that makes it legal to carry in my state. The shape of the handle and blade (see picture on Bladerigger web site) give me the security of mind that I need to thrust and/or slash. It is just so comfortable to carry that it has become as much a part of my wardrobe as putting my socks on. And I think that is the key, having it always with me.
